STAFFORD TOWNSHIP- A 20-pound wild turkey that authorities said was "wreaking havoc" while playing in traffic on Route 72 was shot by police Wednesday.
Michael Melchionne, the township's chief animal control officer, said the turkey has been in the township for the last several months, mostly in residential areas, until this week when it started showing up on local roadways.

The problem here is that Popcorn Park (humane Society) was notified by residents and offered to relocate the Turkey since they are equipped with Tranquilizer guns unlike Stafford Animal Control. They were not asked for their assistance. The NJSPCA offered the same assistance if they were to be notified by animal control but were not.

Beat the drumstick slowly and play the fife lowly for the deceased bird. It is good they are keeping everyone a breast of the problem and didn't stuff it full of nonsense. :D

Agreed, but

I believe the Police did what they had to do. If a person had been hurt or killed because of this bird,Here comes the Lawsuits. The lawyers would have a field day.

Yes police did what they were instructed to do , its a shame the police are catching the bad rap here , the mistake was animal control should have asked for help from close by associations with tranq guns , thats what they are there for.
