The township hopes to block off 1.6 miles of Stage Road for walking, jogging and bicycling. The township will own that section, which starts at Chatsworth and ends at North Maple Avenue.

I am thinking there is an error in this article. They must be blocking of the section of Stage Road from Chatsworth ROAD to North Maple Ave. That would be here.

That is going to cut off vehicle access to anyone who wants to park along the road and walk the Batona. It also will cut off access to any other road along that section. It appears Allen's Road will still have vehicle access.

It seems to me someone has way too much power to block off roads in that area. From Oswego Lake, Allens Road, and other places in that area, they are slowly taking easy access to much of the woods from us. If they do it there you will see it happening more and more. I see nothing but trouble in our future.

How can they possibly do that? Isn't that the main road into New Gretna from Chatsworth?

Edit: Oh, they are blocking off the road that says Leektown on it.

I was thinking it was the Stage Road above Leektown. The Leektown Road has a home on it. How would they get there. It has to be the top Stage Road. The Batona Trail enters and exits there. So if you want to drive to the trail there you can't. Any road that entered or exited there would be impossible to access.

I meant the stage road. In the link you provided the word Leektown is superimposed upon Stage road.

Its very nice I was there last weekend.

I was just down it tonight... the only problem with it being paved is that it's now being heavily used as an alternative to route 9, especially during "rush" hour. I pulled off to the side to snap an evening picture and had to wait for a line of about 12 cars (and a tanker afterwards) to pass before I could even think about pulling back onto the road. At least when it was in poor condition it kept some people off, its a bit of a catch 22. The road loses a lot of its old character with all the reflectors and new paint. At the same time I understand why it had to be repaired, with the problems that were created, it’s a shame.

The DOT in Galloway Township did the same to Motts Creek Rd (Atlantic CR-657), which has been "over signed” and improved if you ask me.

As for the Batona trail access, perhaps the dirt road which runs along Stage could be used as access to get to the trail. I spotted a few people using it this evening. Maybe that won't be closed off as it sounds just the paved portion will be. (And FWIW, it looks like the road has already been repaved in sections of the westbound lanes; otherwise I didn't see any potholes.)

I figure I should add this one pic I took since it's related. This is the sign that was put up on the section of Stage Rd (from Greenbush to Poor Mans Pkwy) warning people about the hazardous road conditions. As it's been discussed it's been paved now so these signs will probably be coming down soon.

Does anyone know if they are blocking off stage road from 679 to n maple? How would you access allen's road by pilgrim lake if you were coming from 679? Also was greenbush paved before?.....I hate when they pave roads it takes away the pines character and leads to lots of road mortality of animals crossing.....:(
