Was just looking in my junk mail folder and noticed there was an e-mail from Instagram suggesting that I follow my son in law's mother. She has been dead for about two years now... that's creepy.

Yeah, I don't think we face any immediate personal threat from this, that isn't what it's about. Facebook and Instagram have used all the photos people have posted to "train" their face recognition artificial intelligence. So it's more likely to lead to tracking you everywhere by recognizing your face in a crowd. That has some very broad implications for our future.

They may need to diversify their "training". Apparently most facial recognition programs aren't so great with faces of color or advanced age. So I'm good for now.
