Tall Pines State Preserve - NJ's newest state park

Went to check out Tall Pines State Preserve in Sewell, Gloucester County, NJ last weekend. This is the site of the former Maple Ridge Golf Course, which was Ron Jaworski's Eagles Nest before that. Back in November, the state purposed it from a private developer, whose development plan fell through with the recession. In February, it was officially dubbed Tall Pines (another former name for the former course).

State hasn't gotten around to blazing trails, making a map, or putting any facilities in yet (it just finally took down the giant "NO TRESSPASSING" signs, but there are roughly four miles of former golf cart paths that you can hike on.

It's amazing how fast an area can start returning to nature.

Similarly, a golf course was converted to a WMA in Lower Township Cape May County in 2006.
It was formerly known as Ponderlodge and the WMA is now known as Cox Hall Creek. It is 315 acres.
We run our dogs there in the summer quite a bit.

Ponderlodge contained a mansion built by the Schmidt's Brewing magnate, Billy Pflaumer from Philadephia. Pflaumer was a flamboyant character who, like me , despised light beer. In another article I read several years ago it said that the swimming pool had a tile logo of Schmidt's Beer in the bottom.

I totally will, it's impossible to pass up on a place that used to be known as "Beer World".
