am taking a break off the AT for a bit to get my health and weight inline. http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=262690 thank you for signing my guestbook, but most of all THANK YOU for all your efforts in the pines to make it possible for others (like me) to enjoy. i took for granted what it takes to clear a path and pick up trash. i was involved with the maintenance crew of Tenn. by logging the location and size of blown down trees on the trail. they volunteer every tuesday to keep things clean and clear. made me realize i need to get more involved where I live. so again thank yous all. for this generation and those to come:)

I have been following your track on the web site. You certainly have had some bad weather to work through. You are smart to get the health issues sorted out. Best wishes to you.

Many forests have trail overseers who spend an enormous amount of time maintaining trails. I helped out with trails in Shenandoah years ago and you really get to appreciate the efforts these guys make, especially when clearing large blowdowns. Sadly, most of the work required in the pines is due to humans.

Karl,

That was quite a bit of weight you lost! Hopefully, all will return to normal. Glad to see you are home safe.
