Can I be the first to say that I have been bit by the first deer flies of 2019 tonight ?
Planting the vegetable garden tonight and I got chewed twice.

Already Chigged a number of times when I'm pretty careful.

What the heck.?
Seems a week ago I'm throwing another log on the fire to knock the chill off and overnight I'm getting violated by one of Jersey's voted "Most reliable to come out in force evil critters."

But...! Yay...Salt water eases the pains of bites and poison.

Till that time when the wretched Greenhead makes itself known, but I've got their number.
And better chewed by a Greenhead, even though they hit like a blowtorch, than left suffering from a chigger.
The greenies once you are away from port and moving a bit, are a non issue.
I will say there is a vicious unrelenting take no prisoners tribe of them on Crab Island for those that linger a little too long at the Stinkhouse sandbars.
Woeful travelers be warned.
And one is not ever supposed to be on that island anyway. Big time trouble for those who do, so it's not worth it.
Plenty else to do, and not get chewed.
