The big, long "bench" on the Batona on the way to Martha

I was out hiking to the Pumping Station this past Saturday (where I saw NOT ONE person the whole day again!) had lunch at Martha Furnace and headed back out via the Batona. Just before I got to 679, on the left is a big long wooden bench. It looks brand new. What the heck is that and why is it out in the woods?? I have a photo of it but I haven't dumped the photos off the card yet. If it is a bench for resting your tired legs on, its built back pretty far.

It must be brand new. I was on that section of the trail on March 5 and I didn't see it.

This past Saturday I hiked round trip from Evans Bridge to Batsto, didn't see a soul all day on the trail. However on Sunday I saw about 10 people on a round trip hike on the Batona from Carranza to Quaker Bridge.
