This weekend, violence killed 49 people and wounded 118 within 5 hours throughout the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. Another 22 bodies were found today. In addition, 4 British and 3 American soldiers were killed. Also, 11 men were kidnapped.
Representative John Murtha (D. PA) put forth a plan in April:
-- To immediately redeploy U.S. troops consistent with the safety of U.S. forces.
-- To create a quick reaction force in the region.
-- To create an over- the- horizon presence of Marines.
-- To diplomatically pursue security and stability in Iraq.
There is something to his plan that weighs heavily in his favor. The people of Iraq may just run Al Queada out of Iraq once we leave. They won't share it with them. And if the country erupts in civil war, it would have anyway sooner or later. But at least it will be their fight, not ours. Food for thought. A thought I had was that we at least withdraw to the border crossings; nobody gets in. Unless you are a known criminal, you can leave, but thats it. Then watch and see if the cities calm down with no American help, and most importantly, no American aggravating presence. How much worse can it get?
