I was at Brookhaven State Park in the Long Island pine barrens on June 15th. It was a nice cool day and of course I took alot of photos. You've seen the ponds posted here before, so instead I am going to show some of the insect and other life around the ponds.
One thing that was wonderful was the lack of pine flies, usually around this time of year they swarm around me like crazy. Maybe it was because of the abundance of dragonflies.
There were numerous damselflies as well.
And I saw this beautiful blue butterfly land in front of me!
This tiny pond formed in the trail and was just crawling with tadpoles. There were so many it looked like the whole pond was moving when I moved through.
In the larger pond I saw alot of these fish, I am curious as to what species they were.
And with the wide sand roads there I didn't have to worry about ticks. I was hoping to see some turtles and snakes but no luck with that, it seems I see them when I least expect it (like that big snapping turtle in Wantagh).
