It is always unbelievable to me how these studies don't turn up snakes. There are pine snakes in any patch of pine barrens in ocean, atlantic, burlington, camden, cape may, monmouth, and cumberland counties. I never understand how these developments go up in areas I know pines are in. I've heard ideas that the people who go in to find these snakes are paid not to find them. When you think about it what developer wants to hire a env. surveyor who is actually good at finding snakes(an exception is herp. assoc.). If they found three dead on roads that probably means there is a real large population there. It is like the sanctuary all of a sudden they are shocked there was pine snakes there.....no crap the area is great habitat why the hell wouldn't pines be there. Nobody wants development anymore...people are leaving Jersey, 78,000 people left last year.....everyone is fed up.....stop building. I've talked to yuppies who are completely superficial and even they are getting tired of houses going up in areas were they use to walk their dogs.........damn i'm pissed now.
