Nice post. I had the opportunity to metal detect the woods on privately owned land surrounding Timbuctoo quite a few years back.

What I found fascinating was there was a path leading up from the creek which had stones strategically placed to mark the way. My feeling was that the stones were there to help runaway slaves find their way through the dense woods at night. I also found more than 200 buttons, and many coins, all dating from the late 1700's to the early 1800's.
