The original 1954 Japanese movie was interesting, but the 1956 version that was released in the US also sucked.... they edited it down, dubbed it in English and awkwardly inserted a new American character. It's still fun though, in the tradition of other bad 50's sci-fi movies.
The 1998 version also sucked. Have not seen the new one, and don't plan to.

Like I said, it's fun, and I have a big collection of 50's Science Fiction films that are just as bad, but I still enjoy them all. The original Japanese 1954 version "Gojira" is more artistic and political, but Hollywood chopped it up and inserted scenes shot two years later in the US with Raymond Burr. Watch the 1954 version sometime if you haven't seen it.

You are absolutely correct. Godzilla was originally a representation of the Bomb, and so thus he was an ENEMY , a destroyer. Now they make him to be our friend and help save civilization from forces that have no sense ,purpose or meaning. But enough of the metaphysical b******t, I just wanna see him stomp on buildings and pick up cars in his teeth

The Creature from the Black Lagoon was filmed in part at Silver Springs FL. When we were kids on a family vacation there, we took the glass boat ride, when the diver showed up my sister went nuts, she thought he was the creature coming for the boat.

The 1958 film is more similar to "Alien". But that is just a ridiculous, terrible 50's movie where the men keep throwing hand grenades at the monster inside a little space ship, while the women make coffee. Sorry, that's one I really don't like. The 1953 film with RIchard Carlson and Barbara rush is a great movie, with aliens landing in a crater in the desert and a weird one-eyed monster that possess people.

It's really very simple.... just a Mac Mini that runs iTunes 24/7 with home sharing. This can be accessed by my two Apple TV's, two Macs, iPad and even my iPhone. Also directly connected to my stereo system that has speakers in different parts of the house. When I moved here in 2006, there was no cable TV available, so I built up a large library of DVD's. Got tired of messing with physical media about 7 years ago, and "ripped" all my disks. Have downloaded a lot of the more obscure titles from places like archive.org, dailymotion and youtube. Had already ripped all my music from CD's a few years earlier.
All together, I have about 3500 songs, 750 movies and 600 tv episodes. Even with FIOS now, I still don't have any network or cable TV and continue to grow my own media library.

I always thought "The Thing From Another World" was the direct influence of "Alien". A group of workers in a remote environment are trapped with a monster they cannot escape. Exactly the same theme. The narrow hallways and film noir look of the Antarctica ice station are very similar to the spaceship in Alien. I don't remember if I read the John Campbell story from 1938 but I understand the 1982 "The Thing" was based on that story. As monsters go, the John Carpenter version was pretty darn scary.
I saw "Gorgo"when I was 7 years old and had nightmares for years.
That's great. I do have 11,200 songs imported from CD's and friends. I put them on Itunes.
There's a fun documentary called "Watch the Skies! Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us" where Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, James Cameron and others discuss their favorite 1950's sci fi films. I have a copy from an old DVD, not sure where you can find it today but it's worth a watch if you can.
