Tuckahoe WMA

Spent awhile at the Tuckahoe Wildlife Management area today, which is near my home. It's beautiful - lots of wide open space and birds, but the wind was fierce today: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=39.336156,-74.729605&ie=UTF8&z=12&t=h&om=0

There'a about a 7 mile long loop road that starts on Rt 50 in Estelleville and ends on Rt 50 near Corbin City. Worth a trip if you haven't been there.

I`v done that loop many times, one pond had so many swans on it we kept losing count.

I went back there the day it snowed. Drove back not very far because I was having problems with my four wheel drive. If I knew that was back there I would have kept on going, instead I went over to the atlantic county park. Nice pics I'm going to have to get out there next week.

That is an awesome area. I go there quite often for birding. We should take a trip down there (although Guy won't go, being south of the White Horse Pike and all ).

Thanks all, glad you enjoyed the photos! I do like it a lot down here Guy, but I sometimes miss my old Burlington/Ocean County haunts.

Bob, those islands fascinate me also but they look really inaccessible. Has anyone ever been on one? How would you get there? Doesn't seem like you could walk and it doesn't look like there's a channel large enough for a boat (but I could be wrong about that).

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the view of the power station at Beasley's Point:

It's actually pretty far away (6 or 7 miles?) but this was taken with a long telephoto lens.

Those first few photos with the sun going down are smokin! I especially like the one where the sun is a big ball of hot molten metal; it looks like at any moment the surrounding area goes....Phooooomp! Up in flames.

I'll bet getting to the island would be fun. Have to bring a long 2X6 and set it across the channels of water that are common to salt marsh. Could be a problem though if the mud was often flooded at high tide. We would also go Phoooomp--sink in the mud to our necks.
