The opening date for Jakes has been postponed several times, which has been par for the course for most of our recent new parks. It’s mostly been due to the contractor fixing various minor and a few major things that weren’t as they should be. Although staff from Wells Mills and Cattus Island Parks have been involved in the creation of exhibits and trails, we are as much in the dark for the exact opening date as anyone else is. The Decoy Show, Jamboree, and Cattus Island Nature Festival have slowed things down for a few weeks but I’d say the park might be open sometime in October.
I don’t have a site plan myself, but I assume one would be available for review by a member of the public if requested. Much more of the park will be left in its natural state than would have been the case if the original plans for a golf course were carried out. The new plans include athletic fields and a nature center, most of which are now completed. There is no public access until the park is handed over from the contractor to the county
