I think my new deodorant attracts turkeys....somewhat.
This morning, I pulled up at the house around 9:30 and there in our fenced in back yard were about 4 turkey wandering around while about 10 were on the other side. It's good to have such a diligent watchdog in the house making sure nobody steals the couch. Anyway, I got a hankering to hit the woods around 2 so, I headed for Evan's Bridge.
I was wandering around in the swamp south of the bridge and when I popped back out onto the old Harrisville Rd, There were two of the brightest red heads bobbing up and down in the distance. I tried to get a pic but they saw me first and moved off. I was happy with that sighting and headed for the bridge pilings for more pics. After a pic or two, I tried to follow the river downstream for a bit. Well, my attention was focused on a frog when all the sudden something spooked these two turkey into flight about 50 feet from me. If you've ever spooked a turkey into flight at close range you have an idea why I was dang near in need of a defibulator and a change of undies.
After that natural wonder, I headed back and went around to the other side of the Wading to follow Harrisville Rd towards Harrisville. I don't know if it was one of the same birds or not but another turkey spooked just as I was turning off the Batona heading for the road. Tell you what, you just never quite get used to that loud drum like wingbeat when it's very close to you and all you're packing is fragile nerves and a walking stick.
I saw where this one landed and spooked him one more time but I was ready for it or I thought I was. I didn't set any standing high jump records this time but when I did land, I came to the conclusion that those birds were messing with me.
All in all though, another great few hours in the pines.

I'll send you my supper secret turkey calling cologne.
You may want to scout out around Evans Bridge. I walked back on the turn around and there were tracks all over.

Forgot to mention that when I got home, I pulled 3 ticks off me and found one cruising Mt Flabby near the belly button abyss.
Spray up, it's gonna be a good summer to be a tick.

My new neighbor direct is letting the lads go a hunting for the elusive bird.
I have another friend who is of the same mind off burnt mill.
My humor in this is as such that, whilst taking my evening stroll with my faithful mutt, (I now average a 2 mile evening walk) I had quite a disturbance of gurble, gurble going on in one particular spot and then the very same coming back. This was just beyond dusk and a mere 100+ yards past said neighbor's property. I wonder if his lads will prevail and find the Turks or if they will elude.

Made me chuckle!

I flushed up about 8 of them one time on my motorcyle over by the rye fields in Greenwood Forest. Here I am moving about 20 mph and a couple of them are right in front of me trying to outrun me by flying about 10 feet high. It was like God threw a couple big birds he designed in the air for the first time to see if they would fly. They were a little wobbly.

While surveying in the commonwealth of Kentucky, I, more than once, purt near stepped on a gobbler. Talk about losing your wits momentarily.
If I had a gun and was hunting them I probably would have shot my fellow surveyor like someone we all know and love so much.
