I needed a good laugh! Heck, its been 5 minutes since I looked at it and still laughing. Now that's a guy I'd like to go out and have a few with, too bad he doesn't drink.

Hard to believe some of the posters said mean things about the guy. He seems like a really neat and nice guy who has a mission in life. Good for him.
Cool video of a interesting guy! Seemed like most of the snappers were similarly sized...small medium. He loves his job. How do you get your teeth knocked out by a chainsaw? Cheez!!!! I know what you mean Bob, some of those comments were harsh.

i imagine his teeth got knocked out when the chain fetched up on a tough knot or a nail and the machine jumped back and hit him in the mouth,lucky thats all it did.
Now i really must work on a snake yell.I've been bit more times then i can count by snakes but never been turtle bit yet though i hear it ain't purty.I bet he invented that yell the first time he got bit and just kept it.At one point he was waving that turtle uncmfortable close to a very sensitive spot.i wanted to give a turtle yell just watching it.
I had a cousin one time who used to wade in during cold weather and feel with his feet and then yank them out of the muck with both hands by their sides.he claimed as long as it was cold out you were safe and he said they wouldn't bite under water.later on a met a girl who had a nasty scar from being bit under water,i think my cuz was lucky.

When my dad was stationed at Lakehurst a buddy of his got chomped on by a big snapper at those ponds you see on rt.70 across from that RC car place. The guy had to have his toe amputated as a result. Didn't watch the video yet I will. But I'm guessing this guy is catching snappers to sell for food.....I probably won't be a big fan of that.

For those who ever pick a turtle up don't do it by the tail......it is an extention of there vetebrae....and can do massive damage.....those poor fellas ended up as someone soup.

Just curious,if you don't pick a snapper up by the tail just how do you pick him up?From experience I can vouch they can lick their own butt if they want too.I've seen people grip them in front by the shell and pin their head in with their knuckles but their head has to be in to begin with and if you miss your on your way to catching the turtle mans record of 17 bites.
I'm no fan of the turtle meat market myself but I've always had a fondness for crazy people.Some of my best buddies and many of my kin (hillbilly moms side) are quite crazy.H'es kinda like a rattlesnake free handler.darn near as dangerous.Always wanted to free handle rattlers myself but not quite that brave.I was oncet acused of being crazy myself by a tennessee redneck who was amazed I had hold of a rattlersnake while barefooted with no shirt on.I told him shoes and shirt weren't required and not much of a protection anyway.he is now convinced all yankees from jersey are a mite touched.I on the other hand don't even have one rattler bite to my count:-( I guess I'm not as crazy as the turtle man:-(

Al, best way to hold them is by grabbing them behind their head under their shell, and like you said keep the head down with your knuckles. With that said I usually don't pick the big bastards up unless I gotta get them across a road. Pushing them along with your foot normally works, although as you can see from that video they can really jump at you if they want.
I found that you just push a long stick towards their face and they bite down hard, and then pull them across the road.

Cool video Guy thanks for sharing the link, as an adventurous kid I used to catch big snappers, I recall pulling several out of the mud after I had stepped on them but I fail to recall how I located the head, and then I would just let them go again like all the other snakes and critters.

Five years ago while after a great Fluke trip at Little Egg Harbor Reef, we decided to go, me and my two buddies, to the Mystic Island Casino for some refreshment.
While riding down Radio Road to go to the Casino, the biggest Snapper that we have ever seen was smack dab in the middle of Radio Road, i stopped the car, and other people stopped in back of me, the traffic also stopped from the other way.
My two friends got out of the car, and one other man from his car going back to Rt.9, shooing, accomplished nothing, the man who we did not know got in back of the Turtle and tried to move him, The Turtle hissed, and the man took off back to his car so fast that he would have broken an Olympic record.
To finally end the story, my friend George finally got the Turtle to the other side of Radio Road, he found a two by four lying off to the side of Radio Road and got the Turtle to finally move off the road prodding it from behind as the Turtle was hissing all the way.
