All,
The older members of this group know that years ago a friend of mine dubbed the partial bridge at Lower Forge as "Unbridge" because the bridge is not there, and because at the time the 7UP "uncola" commercials were popular so when we talked or visited there unbridge came to mind. Remember those commercial with the bald headed black man??
Anyway, I have always wondered why the bridge is like it is, and always felt it was because they did not want the wilderness camp at Lower Forge to have vehicle traffic, so they removed portions of it.
Well, I have discovered the reason and it is not what I had imagined. Apparently, in the mid 1960's it was decided to place a bridge there that had been there years before, but after starting it they then considered it not needed and construction stopped. Quaker Bridge was just a little over a mile away and could get you anywhere the Lower Forge bridge could so it was not finished.
So it is an unfinished bridge, not one that had been removed.
Your truly crossing Unbridge at Lower Forge in 1978.
