Hi Bot,

Burning leaves/branches is a viable means to ridding one's self of the waste. When I lived with both of my parents and was still in high school, we would burn our tree/shrub clippings, because throwing them into a landfill, in plastic trash bags, is completely counter intuitive.

You could suggest to these people, if it's really that irritating, to compost their waste, rather than burning it. If nothing else, you can offer to compost it for them, and you will be left with a way to make money --by selling the compost

Not quite so fast...

Best answer ever

Sorry to disappoint but there are extensive tracts composed of pure chir pine (Pinus roxburghii) in the Himalayas of India. Considering chir pine’s heat, drought, and fire tolerance, their stands on poor sandy soils could probably be considered “barrens.” Like pitch pine, P. roxburghii is resin-rich – suitable for naval stores (e.g., tar, turpentine, rosin), charcoal manufacture, and grows in association with oaks and ericaceous plants. It is somewhat distantly related to North American three-needled pines.

Too much coffee today.

Why is someone who's on a wireless card in India (ABTS-TN-dynamic-026.155.164.122.airtelbroadband.in) posting on a site about the New Jersey Pine Barrens?

Perhaps your site is so popular abroad that folks from India would just post on it to Curry favor of you for a chance to be part of the group.

How about a Nehru jacket with the PBX emblem!

Don't bring that up. Bob's youth went out with the Nehru jacket.
Unfortunately that crappy band he likes that also wore them stuck around awhile. Oh well, two down, two to go.

Could we just talk about sustainability? For once?

The messenger, wherever he's from, exposes a very real flaw with some of the ways we operate. I’m afraid that we simply don’t have the same mindset as the rest of the world when it comes to sustainability science. Tackling and mitigating climate change, energy supply, water supply, and food production impacts are vague and daunting concepts that fail to effect our everyday livelihood strategies – for now. We’ve become extraordinary consumers when compared to the rest of the global community, and prefer to borrow and spend our way out of the current financial malaise without addressing pending difficulties associated with adhering to some old bad habits.

I applaud the frank exchange of disparate ideas, but suggest we be a bit more culturally sensitive while doing it.
