Thats correct. There aparently are quite a few of them around.

Saw one of those a couple of weeks ago when we were hiking the Batona from Buttonwood Hill Camp to Bass River. Wondered what it was...
Are they currently in use?

They must be in use because the website that Bob and I were discussing had the list of many of them on it. They also seem to have had some damage on them that have been repaired, and the locks on them are in good shape. The one in Mount had been there long before I visited it in the mid 70's and has even been painted.
