All,
Yesterday, I was given a wooden cranberry crate from what I have been told is Howardsville, and along with the crate I was also given hundred's of documents relating to various families, along with surveys from the Manahauken and Stafford Township area. Tonight, I was looking through them, and included were quite a few canceled checks from the mid to late 1800s. In those days as it passed through each cashier they had a stamp with their name on it which they used on every check. As many of you may know if you read my article on Charles Green Rockwood Sr., he was a cashier at the First National Bank of Newark. Well, we now know that he also worked at the First National Bank of Tom's River most likely before his tenure in Newark. We even now have a copy of his signature.
