Early this morning I noticed there were no birds at the feeder. Very unusual this time of year. I looked out back and I saw why. A big Red-tailed Hawk was perched in an oak eyeballing the area.
I was able to put my spotter and tripod together and digiscoped these with my phone. A beautiful and hungry raptor at about 60 yards. Pics are a little degraded because they were taken through the storm door window. I didn't want to open the door and disturb it.
An hour later he was gone and the birds returned in force.

"digiscoped" ? I am still photograhically ignorant; need to know more. We have had redtails nesting on our property for last 10 . Usually see them paired up and carrying twigs by now, but recent storms tore tops off our big white pines and haven't seen what looks like a nesting pair so far this year.

Old Jersey Girl,

Digiscoping is using a spotting scope, or even binoculars, with your cell phone mounted to the eyepiece to obtain long distance photos and videos. There are several manufacturers for the mounting bracket apparatus with Phoneskope probably being the most popular.

I have this spotting scope for hunting and target work:
https://shop.opticsplanet.com/redfi...MI152K8ZDn4AIVAo3ICh3gdAzKEAYYASABEgIJn_D_BwE

And this is the Phoneskope site:
https://www.phoneskope.com/store/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1Kv4opHn4AIVFeDICh1bhARxEAAYASAAEgL_1_D_BwE

There are many YouTube videos on digiscoping that I am sure you will find informative.

Enjoy !

We had something very similar; bird food in the feeders was not being taken. Turns out a Mockingbird had staked claim to the suet feeder and chased everything off. Very aggressive, even Bluejays were sent packing. First I had seen this, there were several good aerial battles, but the Mockingbird always prevailed. Nothing I tried got rid of it until I took down the feeder's for 2 weeks. So far it hasn't returned, but I have not put the suet back out.
