Weather

The Rhodies are curled up nice and tight this morning.

But a lot warmer than this place, less windy too :D

-1 at my house in Turnersville @ 05:00 this morning. I can say I was happy when my phone rang at 04:30 & the words "no work today" where spoken. I've been working on the Tacony Palmyra Bridge, on the arch span. I can't imagine the wind chill up there today!

Say George, there's a bolt loose on that condenser unit out there. Suit up and go out and change it. But hold on, wind speed is 96 miles per hour!

It was SO cold yesterday. Was up in NYC and it was all but unbearable walking around. Passed through Chatsworth around midnight on the way home, it was 4 degrees.

But we are headed back up into the mid 50's in a few days. :)

Another photo from JSHN, the good old days. That is the pole farm at Good Luck Pt on the far side of the Toms River the VW is headed for. There was a track set up for ice racing. Thinking about it now, very stupid driving on it, and I was one of the stoopid ones. Folks were driving over the bay instead of using the bridge. As I recall this was in the late 70's.

I wouldn't try that today! In spite of the cold, the puddles in my driveway only have a thin layer of ice. The ground is still very warm since it was in the 50's a few days ago. :)

The bay is frozen across from the Pt Pleasant canal to Barnegat Inlet. Nobody driving though :D A couple more days and the ice boats would have been out on the river.

Was a very bad morning in Bamber. Ice covered the roads. I saw a large gravel truck turn nearly sideways as it rounded the curve on Lacey Road. Many idiots just kept coming on strong without a clue. One girl turned off Lacey onto my road, and she slid all the way into my road. She was really shook up. Power was out for 8 hours.

Wow, that sounds terrible. Was listening to the news and they advised people to stay home if possible. So of course, I went out. :D

Almost no problems here, just light rain with temps around freezing. A few little roads near me had slippery spots, but were fine if you used common sense (and people seemed to be, didn't see any accidents in a 40 mile trip). Around Vineland/Millville the roads were just wet, didn't see any ice. Traffic was moving at full speed on Rt 55 without problems.

Really bad around here as well. Son took the GSP to work in Barnegat and was behind a SP car keeping traffic down to 35 mph. Many cars in the grass and many accidents on local roads. One death in a 12 car accident on the Beaver Dam bridge in Pt Pleasant. Auto body shop owners have their happy face on. Just a miserable day to be out and about. Todays the same, except its warmer. I just upgraded my genset last month to a bigger one on sale at Harbor Freight.

I went to work before it started and had to follow salt trucks nearly the complete way.

It was 60 when I looked this morning at 5 and it is now 62.

Actually I was supposed to be in NYC on Friday morning but my friend called Thursday night to cancel due to a schedule conflict. Good thing I didn't go because I would have been right in the middle of that mess.

Green Bank & Lower Bank had four multi-vehicle collisions during the 90 minute ice fiasco yesterday. A fire truck overturned in Medford on Rt. 206 en route to an accident. I heard that one of the fire company members from Medford Farms in critical condition.... It was very dangerous between 7:45 and 9:15. I was lucky to be at work before the worst of it too.
