Hi everybody,

I was at Webb's Mill yesterday with a couple of friends and the water level was well up from what it had been on Memorial Day.

Of course, we've had some rain lately, but one of my friends said he'd heard that the beavers were back at the dam. In any case, the "wrack line" showed that the water has been even higher, but it looks like the water levels are climbing again. :(

Not a lot of orchids or other flowers blooming, not many dragonflies or damselflies out (but it was cloudy and cool) but we ran into some other friends who had heard Pine Barrens Treefrog before we got there.

You need to travel around and see the beaver dam for yourself. The level was up last night when I was there but the dam is open. Most likely they had fixed it up but someone had to have opened recently. And it is obvious they had some serious rain in that area because the water has washed out part of the road by the pipe near the dam as of last night.

Friday night I thought we were going to need life jackets on the second floor of the house. Heaviest rain I've seen all spring. I know of at least one person checking the damn dam each morning, but maybe if the road washes out completely, the problem will get a permanent solution sooner  The Director of F&W is aware of the problem though.

Thanks for the picture, Guy. We haven't gone looking for the beaver dam yet, but the washout on that road is similar to some that we saw later in the day at Whitesbog. We've had some pretty good downpours lately.

I was at the beaver dam early this morning and they had worked on it again. The water was high and flowing through the small pipe once more. They had it semi clogged and I was able to easily take one stick out on the other side and they all flowed right through the pipe. So the water level is high again. The road is washed out even more and soon will be blocked completely. Someone actually drove through the washout and must have really taken a jolt.

Stopped by the damn beaver dam this morning, the washout continues to become larger.

The water level is as high as its ever been with continued beaver activity.

The beaver trap is still set, it's a Hancok live trap, it works like a suitcase. Looks good, but no takers yet.

On the way home, another victim of the roads, Eastern King Snake on the right shoulder line. Looks like it may have eggs?

Stopped by Webb's today. The beaver trap is gone, hopefully the beaver with it.

That wasn't you, by chance, walking out of the bog past the white county parks van today, was it? The beaver are still active. A friend of mine has been breaking up the dam every few days.

No, I didn't go to the bog proper, but around the back. The water level is as high as its ever been. The opening has to come down another foot or more, but that will take some doing without additional damage to the road. I believe your friend sent me a picture of a new visitor to the bog :D

I received an email today from a friend that has been relentless in his pursuit of the now infamous Webb's Mill Bog Beavers, and it appears he has won the war by his tenacity and sticktoitness. :clint: I am going to take a drive past the damn dam today, as he says the water level is down over 18".:dance::dance:

Flowing free, 2 breaks in the dam.

Even some whitewater at the downstream side of the large drainage pipe.

The bog has drained substantially already.

A large number of these red barrons flitting around the board walk.

Nice! Now the middle section needs to go. I won't be in that area for a while so I can't help.

Yes, it has a new home. There was only one, which is pretty odd. I'll be convinced if there is no rebuilding over the next couple of days.

Tee, there is no need to take out that section as the water level is the same on both sides of the dam. It just needs some time to drain further.

Took a little ride to see how Webb's is doing. Its doing very well, the water level upsteam of the dam is the same level as downstream and there is a good flow thru it.

Iced over.

The outflow is unobstructed and the Webb's Mill Branch is flowing strong and clear.

The small drain pipe is dried up as the water level is now below it.

You find the strangest things in the pines :( Looks like some type of trailer with gas engine mounted on it, a pump perhaps from road work?

Thanks for the report 46er. Does it appear that engine has been there long?

No, not long at all, in fact it looks in pretty good condition. When I first caught sight of it, the sun reflecting off it, I thought it might be a stuck ATV. As I got closer to it, I thought someone had cracked an ATV in half as there are a lot of tracks where it is. I might go back to see if I can salvage it.
