Just arriving here now. I went out for a walk around 6:00 and it was miserably hot and humid without a breath of air moving. By 6:30 there was distant thunder, darkening skies and some breeze blowing. Then it got so dark and windy, I chickened out and came back in! Storm seems to be just North of me, but will see what happens in the next few minutes. RIght now, looks like another one that will miss me by about a mile or so.

Missed it by about that much! :D

The yellow outline from Port Republic to Waretown is the severe thunderstorm warning area (radarscope app). Heading back out to continue my walk, we didn't get a drop here, sun is shining again now.

It was minor here. I could see that nearby they were getting hit harder. Basically, a dud except cooler weather.

I thought you were much further south Boyd. I was thinking west of Woodbine. Here is where a giant dropped napkins on the hidden creek golf club.

Here's another severe weather outlook that seems somewhat at odds with the local forecast. These are coming from a prediction center in Oklahoma (IIRC) and not the local NWS office in Mount Holly. I don't know if the weather is getting harder to predict or maybe it's just my perception, but seems like recent forecasts have been less accurate. With news reports of staff cuts and buy-outs as high as 20% at NOAA, I have to wonder if this is one of the results....

Whatever. But it's getting really dry down here, the driest it has been since this thread was started in 2023. I have seen worse here, but not for awhile. Hopefully we get some rain before too long.

Weather 'announcements' have become similar to clickbait. They use it to keep you watching and interested. It's why ABC nightly news starts off every broadcast with "we are monitoring deadly weather at (insert a bundle of states)". They oversell it.

One trend I've noticed (goes back maybe 5 or 6 years, could be a "pandemic thing"?) is they now say how many people will be affected by each storm. You could argue that is good to know, but it seems more like clickbait to me. It's more like "...we are monitoring deadly weather that could affect 40 million Americans!!!...".

Yes, ABC news does that every night.
Jessica is an avid news freak and every night she is saying that the news at 6:30 is old news and she read about it days before. Plus, to me their top stories many times aren’t what I would consider a top story. They are catering to those without the internet.

That is interesting. I would say that the core barrens has gotten some water levels back up. I was over at goodwater and compared to last year this time the water levels looked ok. In my area many of the storms that came thru hit us. It seems some wetlands that get overflow from streams are still quite dry. Boyd your area got more rain beginning of year and last year when the core barrens was getting very little. Now it’s kinda the opposite. The storms here have been quite variably with some areas getting dumped on and others nothing.

Yeah. I think it's kind of the "luck of the draw" with these recent storms that can be very localized. We went through a long wet period down here, the lowlands around Stephen Creek on my property were flooded for over a year during 2020-2021. It slowly receeded but remained very wet down there until this spring.

Storming here. Thunder and lightning and rain. But it looks like it will be short lived even though it is raining hard.

Lots of rolling thunder here but the real rain completely missed me again. However, there was sort of a misty sprinkle that lasted a long time, even after the sky brightened up. I was out in the woods and the tree canopy was as effective as any umbrella would have been. :D But hot and muggy with no wind at all, so after an hour and a half that got old and I headed back in.
