New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites

An aditional 700 acres has recently been added to Wharton State Forest, the largest state forest in New Jersey.

This newly acquired piece of land is open to the public for passive recreation and is located near the intersection of Chatsworth Road and Patty Bowker Road in Tabernacle.

Okay. In order to keep everyone on state land, here is the property line. You must stay inside of this. There is a small portion where I show as Wharton that still is owned by Cutts but I doubt anyone will be going there so I left it out. The Thompson area is the relatives of MaryAnn Thompson.

The bogs there are semi tough to get to and the ATV riders have done some serious entering there. And it is also important to note that vehicles are not allowed. You must walk.

It could be. Guy told me of this a month or so ago, and so Guy being Guy, he's been there poking around already.

I mentioned it already on the site. I just did not say where it was which is typical of me. Manumuskin has also explored it and waded across a stream and got quite wet I hear :)

I would have to say yes.

There are some parts of that property that are really nice.

Hey Guy,
I heard they are doing the Cutts big tour again. There are state forest signs along 532 where the Cutts property used to be. They did a lumber project back there a couple years ago. I know the Cutts family and I will check in with them on this.

Bass River State Forest
I'm not 100% sure this is the same place, but probably is: Wharton has a winter hike planned for Sat Jan 18, 2020, from 1pm - 4pm. Free. Meeting location is "Cutts Bogs Property corner of Rte 532 and Patty Bowker Rd, in Tabernacle". Registration is required: call 609-561-0024 (that's the Batsto/Wharton office).

"Join us for a winter hike exploring one of Wharton State Forest's newest aquisitions: the Cutts Bogs Property in Tabernacle. The hike will be about 5 miles and will traverse sections of abandoned cranberry bogs, white cedar bogs, and tributaries of the Rancocas Creek."
