Lets see. I went to church this morning at sunrise to celebrate the empty tomb. Then breakfast with friends. Then a nice dinner with family. In between, a great drive through the pines. No Easter Eggs or arguments about religeon. BTW, half my family is Jewish. And I'm still curious about the box. :)

Do you want to go check it out or is the photo good enough?
I still haven't seen an argument about religion on this thread yet.Just me an Old Crazy talking about it and apparently pissing some people off so their complaining but I see no actual argument.
I also know where there is what appears to be an old rusted sled abandoned about a mile east of 539.It was quite large and may have been used to haul cedar wood out of the westecunk swamp.IWhip posted pics a long time ago.I still remember the exact spot of that if anyone wants to check it out.It is partially buried in the mud at the edge of a meadow.I personally think the sled might be a santa delusion.Another useless fairy tale on the order of easter eggs.

Nope, nobody is arguing or making ad hominem attacks. I do understand that this is a forum related to the pine barrens. Maybe 5% of the posts I have made here touch on the topic of origin, the rest are all about hiking, fishing...maybe a few political comments. Knowing that Al is a Creationist, as am I, I thought he'd appreciate my analogy about the wooden box in the photo. He did solicit opinions about the identity of that box...so technically I was still on topic. :D Not everybody who enjoys the NJ pine barrens is a secular humanist, liberal democrat or walks in lock step with the environmental agenda of the PPA, so one should expect that that would at least occasionally be reflected in their conversations on this forum.

Ben said he was not happy about all the discussion of religion on the site recently. But why should you show him any respect? He only runs the place.

Perhaps I am being somewhat obtuse but...
Even though it is kind of remote, has no real markings on it, and seems pretty sizable...
If it looks like a box, or looks like a crate, which is what I see, can't it just be a box or a crate?
Maybe just carted out there when it was easier to get it there. Maybe discarded. Possibly it had been filled with deer bait or something to be distributed like corn or squash. Something like that?

There is/was a large crate near Hampton Park that was used as a blind.
Did you touch it? It may be like the monolith in the movie 2001.

I know,it is sacreligious of me but I gave up belief in Santa when he didn't bring me Barbie Benton for christmas when i was eleven years old.I gave up belief in the Tooth fairy when I realized that I was not real keen on Fairies..I held onto belief in Bigfoot the longest till I was in my early 20's but then realized if ever found he would instantly be claimed as the missing ape/man link I got the last one a job as an actor on the present commercials featuring Bigfoot and told him to act like he's just a big guy in a bigfoot costume and he's never have to eat raw meat again.
and no Ed did not touch it,everytime I tried a big hand came up out of it and slapped my hand and said not without a ring Big Boy!

My brother and I had a remote (bandit) spot in the deep woods where we regularly left stuff behind in a box for the next trip. He passed away in 1997. When I go there each year, the wood is more rotted into the ground. Last year there was little evidence we had even been there, and it's only been 15 years. Most of what was left was under pine needles. The forest is quickly reclaiming our spot, as it should be.
