Got a garmin etrex legend H for christmas(wanted a better one, but what can you do), and I cant seem to get boyds classic version to go in. I followed all the direction in the readme file and when I hit upload in the sendmap20 program, sendmap20 just locks up. Any help/advise would be great, thanx

Sorry you're having problems. I have not used that map in a couple years, but it worked in the past. Are you using Windows 7? Not sure if SendMap 20 might have issues with that. I still use SendMap 20 all the time with Windows Vista 64 and have no problems. Have you tried the option to "create gmapsupp.img file" instead of attempting to send the map directly to the GPS. See if that works. If so, then just connect the GPS to your computer and copy the gmapsupp.img directly to the \Garmin folder on the unit.

Unfortunately, I was still new to mapmaking back then, and there are some issues with the way I made that map.... I didn't know how to make it work with Mapsource then. Have you seen these two threads?

http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/electronics-insanity/5929-boyds-map-pines-beta-available.html

That's about all I can think of. I don't really support that old version now, but if you have specific questions I'll try to help.

I had that map in my Legend. Still have it on an SD card somewhere. Sometime during the week, I will try to do it again to see if I can figure it out and give you a hand if you still need it by then.

Hold on a minute, let me see if I can help you out. I will see if I can make an installer to put this old map into Mapsource. If so, I will put it online at GPSFileDepot for the benefit of everyone with these older units. I'll post back to this thread later if I can get it working.

You can also try my Map of New Jersey. It will install and work fine on your computer with Mapsource and it's much more accurate and feature-rich than the old map. You should be able to send a few map tiles to your GPS using this map, and it should work. The main limitation will be that road names probably won't display correctly. I'd suggest trying it anyway to see what you think - if you move the arrow cursor to a road the name will display. And it will be useful on your computer with Mapsource and Basecamp. Download here --> http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/294/

Do you have Mapsource or Basecamp? You will need SP3 for both these programs if running Windows XP. If you don't have, download and install Basecamp FIRST (this is important): http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435, then download and install Mapsource: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

Be sure to have these installed BEFORE installing my Map of NJ.

OK, here you go -- Merry Christmas! --> http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/439/

Guy, since I've got this working in Mapsource now, like "real" Garmin map, it's probably time to take down the old version that was hosted here, don't you think? I'm going to edit the thread to include a link to the GPSFileDepot download.

So you just want me to just remove the file from where I have it stored???

That would be one or all of these???

If you feel there's a value to keeping them, that's fine with me. But GPSFileDepot seems more accessible and has tutorials for installing, etc. If you'd like to keep a local copies, you can download them and store them here too.

But here are my thoughts:

http://teegate.njpinebarrens.com/boydsmapsofthepines/PinesMap-classic.zip
The version I just created of the classic map is better since it works in Mapsource. If I get requests, I could make a Mac installer for this too, but I really am discouraging people from using this version because its old and has lots of inaccuracies.

http://teegate.njpinebarrens.com/boydsmapsofthepines/PinesMap-nuvi-1.zip
This one should just go away because it's old and has been updated several times with better versions.

http://teegate.njpinebarrens.com/boydsmapsofthepines/PinesMap-LC.zip
I'd say this should also go away. It was sort of an experiment I tried for personal reasons and I don't think it has much value to others. Aside from that, I've found that it doesn't work correctly with newer Garmin unit (the Nuvi 1350 and 3790 just display it as garbage). I used too many non-standard techniques on this one. I'm trying to finish up a successor to this one, which I posted about here:http://forums.njpinebarrens.com/get...reports/8052-virtual-drive-through-pines.html I will put it on GPSFileDepot in the near future; it's much more compatible and useful than that old one.

So, just to summarize, this is the map that I suggest everyone use now. It will work on all Garmin units, but the older ones probably will mess up the road names. It will be good to have on your computer anyway though: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/294/

If you have an older unit, or one with small internal memory (like fierodoug), then use the one I just uploaded: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/439/

All the others are out of date and have various issues.

So again, are you saying the three maps that I sent the link to need to be removed? I just want to make sure before I remove them.

Yeah, I don't think they're the right versions for people to use anymore and they can all go away. Sorry if I made it sound more complicated than it should be! :)
