what you'll find washed up on the beach. Maybe a BIG seagull dropped it, or....

Measured around 80". Not my Jeep, used for size comparison.

Have to wonder if died of natural causes or was tossed back when a larger one was caught? The tuna fishery is strictly regulated similar to fluke but worse.

Not natural and was very fresh. The gulls hadn't got to it yet. They are getting them at the '100 Square' and some reports have them 3 miles off. This may have been lost at the boat as there is what looks like a gaff hole in the lower jaw under the eye. Not a spot a hook would be unless it was foul hooked. Over 100 incher, worth BIG money. I used to carry a permit, but nothing ever this large ever came to the boat.
 
Nice fish, definitely worth some $ if it was fresh. A giant sea turtle once washed up on the beach in NJ. They estimated it to weigh over 500 lbs. They had to remove it with a back hoe
