One of the articles said Bermender was an in-patient at a psychiatric hospital, not necessarily the case but perhaps he had some cognitive impairments (beyond those required to clean a gun with a bullet in it).

A quick Google suggests Mr. Bermender only passed in 2020.

I don’t think they all are, I think its an option when you make a clip collection. I found it using Google and the ”site:newspapers.com” operator.
