    Tindall Island hike

From the aerials it looks like the dike came in sometime between the “1980s” images and 1995. It’s not an ancient structure.

    Tindall Island hike

Thanks AMF. I started Googling about local dredge disposal projects and found an article about “Dredge Island” near Sea Isle City. When I went to the LiDAR it has the general shape. Checks out with your explanation! I was lucky to escape chiggers this trip. It would be chigger heaven.

    Tindall Island hike

I found myself in Greenwich with a couple of hours with nothing to do this Sunday so brought my running shoes. Looking on the map for a destination the night before I saw Tindall (aka Tyndall Island) Island Trail. Searching for more info I came across a most excellent 2010 trip report and thread...

On the ground with the high-res LIDAR

My 8 and 9 year olds have dug holes and filled buckets in part of our backyard and they’re on the LIDAR :)

On the ground with the high-res LIDAR

Boyd, that is cool how trails come in and out of prominence on the LIDAR site depending on angle. Yes, I was using your mobile app on my phone, along with the NJGIN map and Google Maps to cross-reference my location. FWIW, the slightly lower resolution on your maps showed me everything I could...

On the ground with the high-res LIDAR

Good question. I assumed "a" was a road since it would have been the route to "b" but it could have been more of a path. I don't know just what kind of structure "b" was. I've passed the cellar hole you circled a hundred times (familiarity breeds indifference?). It's right on the main road...

On the ground with the high-res LIDAR

I decided to do a little exploring this afternoon using the new LIDAR maps Boyd has linked to and given us. It's the wooded peninsula on Hammonton Lake (the Smith Conservancy). I know the main trails here very well but the Hillshade of South Jersey map showed features I'd never seen. "a" appears...

    2019 South Jersey LIDAR

They do look like volcanos! Some of the more remote ones also have faint trails nearby that only LIDAR is picking up. I wonder if they're at all passable or can even be noticed at ground level.

    2019 South Jersey LIDAR

And wow, the trails in the Smith Conservancy by Hammonton Lake are crystal clear. Even the mountain bike path is clear as day. I'm counting at least three light trails I've never seen. Will have to go exploring. Can't wait to try this out everywhere.

    2019 South Jersey LIDAR

Just checked out my house and can see where a snow plow scraped off part of my driveway a few years ago. Whoa. Good luck finding more data, this is great.

The new boydsmaps app is ready!

Wow this looks great—and the maps render so quickly (granted I’m on my home Wi-Fi). I look forward to pulling this up on my next outing!

    Where is Calico Ridge?

Those are cool views! Now that I don't have a commute my wife and I have been taking evening walks. It started around the block, then the local park, then trips to Atsion and Batsto. At some point we just started hiking the Batona south. We'll drive to an access point, walk two miles then...

    Where is Calico Ridge?

Always nice having these old threads. We hiked out to the Calico Ridge location just north of Martha today. No view of the river due to the heavy growth but lots of gorgeous mountain laurel. I didn’t know it was also called calico before reading it here.

    Forgotten Church at Risley

Somewhere on Tuckahoe Road there's a cute brick church that looks like it was built by Catholics--there's a telltale inset above the door where a statue would have gone. Don't see it with a quick scan of Google Maps. Not sure I could place it other than by driving down.

Trails, Inns, and Charcoal Stations of Olde Buena Vista: Little-Known Places

Wow, this is so cool. I sometimes try to make out the old routes but I'm not nearly as thorough as you seem to be. Sorry I missed the talk, will try to make the Franklin Township one.
