    WW II Archaeology

Cool! As a young lad in about 1969, while visiting the Sweetwater Casino, my father introduced me to an older gentlman who was purported to be the PT Boat's designer (although it certainly wasn't W. Hickman) but I cannot recall his name.

Green Bank Inn... closed for good.

Belated "thank you" to Piney Mike for the shared memories. The Green Bank Inn, the Bunglaow Inn, The Rustic Inn, and The Lower Bank Inn were all part of growing up in Wading River for this Piney native. I miss them, and the wonderful people I called friends from Warren Grove to Chips Folly and...

    Aerial Harrisville Photos

You should have seen the fence it replaced...We'd simply walk around it's end and inside...But of course as locals, we didn't vandalize our past, and we were on our way to the swimming hole anyway! :)

Want to visit Joseph Wharton's Crab Island fish factory? Come fly with me!

Thanks Jerseyman, I never saw it like that! And I too grew up out there catching blowfish with my dad. I like to think he's out there even now, maybe over at 7-Bridges, fishing with my little brother...

Is the water from artesian wells safe to drink?

Our house tapped one in Wading River, the only downside was the iron content, but it was healthy to drink according to my ACH/KESSLER ER mom. Last time I was out there in '97 I had everybody take a sip from the one in Harrisville, I hope it is still running.

    Definition of a Piney

It's troubling for me to think of how to add something without taking anything away from my Piney brethren I read above. Taken to heart, the sounds and smells and sights of home are a always a part of who I am...The rustling of ducks over the wild rice of the '70s Wading River, as we raised our...

    Sooy Family

We had Sooy properties right close to my Wading River muskrat trap lines when I was a boy, and the well hole can still be located. Steven and Paul were my classmates at good ol' Green Bank Elementary: http://www.bassriverhistory.org/uploads/6/8/7/1/6871754/h-gazette05-_dec_1999.pdf

    Riverview Beach Park

Many Thanks for the post, Jerseyman! My Dad and His kin hail from Pennsville. Dad (1933-2000) in his youth ran the "Guess your weight and age or you win" booth at Riverview, and previously ran a hot dog stand on the Boardwalk (at age 14) right next to Ed McMahon and his "Kitchen Magician"...

    Hot Dogs

My father ran away from home in Pennsville, NJ, in the summer of 1948 at the age of 15, to earn enough money to buy a car. He went to Atlantic City and took a job selling hot dogs from a cart across from the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. In those days, as he told me, folks like Danny Kaye...

Bill would allow solar energy development on old landfills in the pinelands

Absolutely a fabulous idea...renewable energy...until the bill arrives from the regulated monopoly utility company with huge increases, and you realize that the cost per Kwr is so much higher than natural gas, nuclear power, or king coal. Welcome to California!
