DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I thought there may have been new deadfall placed there but I wasn’t sure. To my knowledge there was no new damage there either. They even mentioned how effective the railings were on the Fix Our Parks blog I saw. I prefer those railings to deadfall

How New Jersey Plans to Relocate Flooded ‘Ghost Forests’ Inland

I’ve seen several fawns laying in the middle of the roads especially near what puddles were left and one dead one. It’s been a rough year for this years fawns.

Wharton drivers better tell NJ now what they need and want

The DEP has tentatively decided on requiring owners of the street-legal vehicles (no ATVs) allowed in Wharton to register with the state and obtain a permit to drive in the pinelands. It is also creating an interactive map showing which dirt roads (some deeply sandy) are approved for driving...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

This is just my opinion but a permit system whether it’s free (for now) or not is the only way to be able to have an enforceable map. When you get your permit you will also get a map. This whole interactive map is so they can take all the information and make sure most of the locations...

Those rectangular pits are a result of the clean up. Owens corning dumped asbestos there and is/was a superfund site. Basically the asbestos is still there just covered over so it’s not disturbed.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

The same occurred a few weeks ago. For the last couple of years they closed several WMA’s. Now they are offering a location to go if you purchase a permit.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Sorry I should have been more clear. To the best of my knowledge no roads were blocked. I was just passing through and noticed deadfall and small branches spread out in areas that weren’t last week. I didn’t really spend much time there.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Well I drove through there yesterday. It was pretty much what I expected. Deadfall piled up to block off areas. Mostly in the grassy area after the bridge.

I remember as a young kid my parents taking me there to see the airplanes. A lot of my friends went there drag race when I was older but I never went. We used to drag race on chew road until one of my friends wiped out going over the tracks.
