No more fun in the Pines

The problem with the rangers is this IMO, they don't fall under the direction of the superintendant of parks anymore. They aren't hired from a ranger exam as they used to be, for the sake of simplicity they are taken from the general law enforcement list now. Most guys that come in are just...

    Assateague/Chincoteague Island

I camped there on the beach over a weekend maybe 10 years ago. it was a lot of fun. The horses were definetly a neat thing to see. They really didn't bother us and we didn't bother them.

    Question about the Shaler Grave

Yeah it stinks about all the graffitti. I can tell you having lived about a mile from the shaler grave that I think alot of it has to do with the people who have moved into the area over the past few years. I watched my neigborhood go from a nice middle class area with friendly people to a place...

    Chernobyl Ghost Town

Hey Boyd, Do you have any background on that site you posted. I wonder what happened to that place? Nevermind I found it on the site.... fascinating none the less.

    The Blue Hole

Forgive my ignorance but, what is the significance of the blue hole?

    Higbeetown

Barry, In that area I think you will find a few little places like that. I lived on Brook Lane, we were in "conovertown" It really isnt known to anyone unless you see the sign for it and consists of maybe three streets between ours an seaview. Obviuosly its just considered galloway now, I think...

Plane wreckage at Bear Swamp Hill

Bob thanks for the heads-up. As you can see from my post count I don't really know anything about anyone around here. Guy, Happy Birthday to your daughter! IIRC, there is mostly fragments of the fuselage left of the F4. I think the military did a fairly good job of cleaning up all the big...

Plane wreckage at Bear Swamp Hill

Yeah the F4 punched big hole in the ground. This is right about where it should be. http://topozone.com/map.asp?z=18&n=4403991&e=546290&s=25&size=l&datum=nad83&layer=DRG25

    Your ideal Pinelands off-road rig?

Scott, believe it or not dads truck is a manual. I tuned it up for him, changed all the filters. It never seemed to make much of a difference. He probably does get around 13 mpg. I hear you guys on the manual tranny's. I was reading in one of the 4x4 mags that one of the manual transmission...

    Your ideal Pinelands off-road rig?

RednekF350, guessing you got one of the last 7.3's since it is an 02. Nice Truck! I haven't heard great things about the 6.0 as far as recalls go, but that is neither here nor there. That 300ci is a durable motor, my dads 90 has about 170,000 on it now with only a water pump replaced (as far...

    Your ideal Pinelands off-road rig?

Badfish, I know those old inlines are pretty heavy didn't expect that though. The other cool thing about the 4bt's is that if you want more power they will respond in much the same way as the 6bt. Plus if you got it to run on fryer oil it would smell like Mcdonalds too hehe. The wd40 thing makes...

    Your ideal Pinelands off-road rig?

Man I am really torn on this one. I think for the sake of all those small trails that I'd have to go with some sort of short wheelbase rig, probably a wrangler with a small diesel, 5spd, solid axles with air lockers, a mild lift and around 33's. Of course this is all a pipe dream due to the EPA...

Plane wreckage at Bear Swamp Hill

Just and update, I spoke to my friend Jon about the crash. He told me there were two. An F4 crashed just North of Bear Swamp Hill sometime after the 105 and you can find wreckage of that as well. I will see if I can get you some accurate coordinates tonight if anyone is interested.

Plane wreckage at Bear Swamp Hill

That would be crazy. Normally I would have to have called bullsh*t on stories like this but Tom is probably one of the most solid people I have ever known. He has told me many interesting stories about things he has encountered during his tenure. Reading through some of the posts here the...

Plane wreckage at Bear Swamp Hill

Hi all. Stumbled across this board surfin around. Its nice to find people to talk about exploring the pines with. In any case, my best friends father retired as the superintendant of Wharton a year ago. I remember a story about this crash. Back when he was a ranger, he used to take his...
