Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

As soon as that narrow line passed me, everything calmed down. Was very dramatic, suddenly the wind stopped and it was quiet. The whole thing was over much sooner than I expected. Waiting for the sunrise to see what everything looks like. Think we got quite a bit of rain. And the next one is...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Wow, that thing was intense, rain was really pounding down hard, I'll bet we got an inch from it. Just moving past me now.... looks like it's headed for you Bob! :siren:

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

That line of intense rain is about to sweep over me. It's about 600 miles long from North to South. If the same movement continues, looks like it will move East and be offshore before long. Another 6 hours to go before the high wind warning is over though (4:00 AM). Also, I went out for a...

    Announcing the new NJPB Maps

That's very interesting Ben, never heard of that trick. And a little Googling suggests that it doesn't work on Safari. The suggestion I found was to press cmd-opt-E in Safari. That's the keyboard shortcut for "Empty Caches" in the Develop menu, as I posted above. Same article says shift-reload...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Power back on again, only out for an hour. Still running on generator until I think I can trust it! AC Electric just sent me an e-mail saying they detected my power is out and it is expected to come back on at 2:00 AM. Their app also says it's out but will be back on at 11:00 PM. They seem to be...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Guessing the "narrow line of intense showers" is the one in my screenshot above, headed our way later tonight. :siren: _________________________________________________ URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ 745 PM EST Tue Jan 9 2024 Inland Sussex-Delaware...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

The really heavy rain is in a line from North to South starting around the southern Virginia border and up Chesapeake Bay. That seems to be trending inland so far, hopefully it will stay to our West. https://boydsmaps.com/nexrad/#8/38.3216/-76.5754

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Running on the genny now, kind of a pain to get that out and setup, had to go out in the pouring rain to run the cable to the generator outlet on the side of the house. Looked like there was already two inches of water in the wheelbarrow. The Atlantic City Electric app already knew about the...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Power went on and off here a few times, staying off now. Ugh.Half way through an 8 hour export of aerial imagery, running on the UPS now but that won't last long. Time to get the generator out and hook it up. :bang:

    Interesting Home

Wow, starter home for $275,000? Good deal in today's market? My first home was a little farmhouse near Lake Ontario in 1980, had seen better days but it sat on 56 acres of beautiful hardwood forest. $37,500, owner financed! I sure don't miss those winters though!

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Am going to attempt to throw together a couple new maps: a street map and hybrid map, both similar in style to HERE maps. Maybe also a dark version of the street map. Of course, it won't be a HERE map it will all be my own data overlaid on the 2019 NAIP aerials at level 17 (4 foot) resolution...

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Just to close the book on this, contacting HERE support to close my account. Their new pricing is too confusing to fully grasp, but from what I can tell, the first 8 days of January cost me around $7. I'm not going to miss any meals to pay that off, but it's significant - $360/year - and I...

    Announcing the new NJPB Maps

I don't think that actually clears the cache - however it still might be all you need to do to fix this kind of problem. AFAIK, that is the re-load command, like clicking the little circular arrow next to the address at the top of the Safari window. That should re-load the webpage from the...

    Announcing the new NJPB Maps

Worked on the first try for me in Safari. But I constantly clear my cache while working on boydsmaps, so that's probably why. But this is the same issue with my own site updates not working. If you use NJPB maps all the time, your browser has no reason to expect anything to change. So it doesn't...

Wet Forest - Formerly Known as Dry Forest

Full briefing on the upcoming storm. Looks like the worst of it will be West of the Pines again. Similar amount of rain as last time but much higher wind gusts (which is never a good thing) :siren: https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Just noticed a bunch of errors in the logfile... turns out that I messed up the zoom level definition of the 1981-87 aerials in the process of correcting another error. If you zoomed in too far, the map went blank. That is fixed now.

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Should also mention, I found and fixed a few bugs along the way. The coverage areas were incorrectly defined for a few maps which was causing some issues. I also re-wrote the code for setting your device type the first time you visit the site (this will also be triggered if you clear site data)...

After a day of re-writing code, the new updated-update is now online. As discussed earlier, you may have cache issues. I have tested it pretty thoroughly this time with Safari, Chrome and Edge on MacOS and Edge and Chrome on Windows. Also tested on my iPhone. As expected, the installed app...
