DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

All: Thanks to Ben, the Google Earth .kmz files are now available for download here: https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/data/kmz/MAP2015.kmz https://maps.njpinebarrens.com/data/kmz/MAP2024.kmz You'll need to install Google Earth for these (they should be compatible with other apps that recognize...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Did anyone else notice this is no longer a MAP (Motorized Access Plan), it's a VVUM (Visiting Vehicle Use Map)?

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Yellow is for county routes such as Rt 563, I wouldn't consider that a "super highway" myself. ;) Interstate highways and toll roads are green, state and US highways are red. The MAP is just a bunch of BS to me, I pay no attention to it. But the unpaved roads on these three new maps were taken...

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Just for fun, I did some comparisons between these new maps and HERE maps on my phone (the HERE WeGo app). If anybody thought I was ripping off HERE, this should put that to rest. :D My goals are obviously very different from theirs. Not "better" or "worse", just "different". Dark Map...

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

Believe it or not, I almost never use Google Earth myself, just thought the .kmz files would be easily accessible this way. Assuming you have Google Earth on your computer, open the 2024 and 2015 maps by double-clicking the downloaded files. They should appear as "temporary places" in the...

Sounds good. :) If somebody has a pressing need for these before then, send me a PM.

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

The PDF's might be a little hard to compare because the 2024 version is actually rotated on the page (why??) You fans of "North Up" maps should appreciate that. :D (this doesn't affect the .kmz files I made, the actual map(s) are correctly georeferenced)

DEP Announces Virtual Public Meeting to Launch Wharton State Forest Visitor and Vehicle Use Survey

I have just georeferenced it and exported as a .kmz file along with the 2015 MAP. You can open them both in Google Earth where you can flip between them or make them transparent to compare as an overlay. But they are big files - 36MB each and I don't want any part of them at boydsmaps. I will...

HERE maps - possible changes coming

FInally... the light-themed street map is now available. Basically the same dataset as the dark map, but you'll find some differences here and there, resulting from hand-tweaking each map. Property lines show at zoom levels 14 - 17, buildings on levels 15 - 17...

26 billion records in the "Mother of All Breaches"

"The MOAB contains 26 billion records over 3,800 folders, with each folder corresponding to a separate data breach" "Researchers believe that the owner of the MOAB has a vested interest in storing large amounts of data and, therefore, could be a malicious actor, data broker, or some service...

NJ bag ban causing more plastic use

"Reusable bags are manufactured with 15 to 20 times the amount of plastic used in the now prohibited single-use plastic bag, notes the Freedonia report. The reusable bags that New Jersey residents now pay for at checkout or when their groceries are delivered, according to researchers, need to be...

Correlation between bigfoot sightings and black bears?

Correlation between bigfoot sightings and black bears?

"Overall, Foxon found that, with forested areas and the human population taken into account, there's about one bigfoot sighting for every 5,000 black bears. Each additional 1,000 bears raises the probability of a sighting by about 4 percent. Hence, the conclusion that 'if bigfoot is there, it...

New Car or Nearly New Car

I was living in Pittsburgh in 1974 and didn't have a car. Was moving to Maine with my girlfriend for new jobs and had my eye on a VW Beetle, it was $500 at a dealer - a pretty recent model IIRC. My father was so concerned about the safety of the VW that he gave me his 1972 Pinto station wagon...

My dark green VW Golf on 10-29-2000. That was one of my favorites, not sure but think it was nearly new when this was taken.

HERE maps - possible changes coming

Here's something annoying :bang: On my 2023 Topo, I labelled Sandy Ridge like the USGS 24k topo https://boydsmaps.com/#15.00/39.776230/-74.609356/pines2023/0.00/0.00 I used the same base POI's on these new maps, but when I changed the fonts, the label rotation was apparently reset back to...

The new Hybrid Map of the Pines is now available. https://boydsmaps.com/#15.00/39.585985/-74.459255/hybrid/0.00/0.00 Like other recent maps, the maximum resolution is 4 feet (1.2 meters). https://boydsmaps.com/#17.00/39.843185/-75.149360/hybrid/0.00/0.00 Using the NAIP 2019 imagery...

Rolling these out one at a time, since they are taking a bit longer than expected. For starters, here's my new dark street map. It features parcel boundaries, starting at level 13. It also includes public openspace data, indicated by green shading...
