"Wild and windswept plains that only the Jersey 'Pineys' know"

Just delete this thread, or the attachment, if it might be a problem. I don't have a paper copy. As i recall i once paid them to download the online article. Doesn't that give me some ownership rights to it? Anyway, that article was what first made me fall in love with the Pine Barrens*. I had...

If my posting this violates the "important rule for this forum" please delete it (tho the team of Philadelphia lawyers that i keep on retainer said it's OK...but I don't trust them).

"Wild and windswept plains that only the Jersey 'Pineys' know"

I read this almost fifty years ago, October 1969, and I was intrigued, and then i drove my VW down from Manhattan to see it for myself.

The Friendship photo is mine. I took a lot of photos around the Barrens that day, but unfortunately only that one of the still partially inhabited town of Friendship.

    The end of Garmin Basecamp

Oh man I'm always having problems with Garmin trying to obsolete me and my 15 year old Garmin 276c. I started using their gps's back before hardly anyone knew what GPS was, with pre map Garmin model 2 (when that one broke they sent me the model 2+ for free - they were real nice in their early...

    You never know...

No it isn't. Was that photo heavily shopped? The fishing pole seems to bend the sky, which is weird to begin with!

Godzilla sighting in the Pine Barrens!

Where was my friend the Jersey Devil when I really needed him!? Godzilla didn't really turn my VW over but he almost did. Shook me up. Almost made me spill my beer.

Godzilla sighting in the Pine Barrens!

Godzilla overturned my VW back in the 1970's. I never reported it to the police because I thought they would think I was crazy. OK seriously I just thought of one thing I never reported to the police. I was driving way back in the Plains and I was surprised to see a guy with his thumb out...

I've been working on the railroads

I'm not sure what I'm looking on on that map. How far away was that from Carranza Mem.? It wasn't the same train wreck. The wreck I saw didn't seem that old and it was freight cars while the Blue Comet was many years earlier and a passenger train. I looked through my old Ektachrome and...

I've been working on the railroads

As I recall I parked by the memorial and walked to the wreck. It was very close.

I've been working on the railroads

Teegate's photos above show how radical the change has been. The Plains used to be such a special place for me - the vast wide open spaciousness looking out over the low forest to the horizon in all directions, but 3 1/2 years ago it looked more like an ordinary eastern forest.

I've been working on the railroads

The train wreck photos were taken in 1971 near the Carranza Memorial. My avatar photo above my name was taken in 1976. That's me towering over the dwarf forest in the Plains like Paul Bunyan. Attached is another one of me in the Plains in 1990. The trees are taller but I still stand over the...
