    Webb's Mill Stones

Totally agree on the first point. I normally adjust to the looser end of the spec. On the latter, however, I disagree. Over time, the valves tend to beat themselves into the seat in the cylinder head, causing the lash to actually decrease (tighten) rather than increase. Excessive valve lash will...

    Blizzard in March

I have a 2016 Tacoma and though it's more practical all-around, my 1995 Ranger was unbreakable and could get into way tighter spots. Single cab was a problem though, as a daily driver. No place to store people or stuff out of the rain. Small trucks now are about as big as full-size trucks used...

    Webb's Mill Stones

Calipers fail on any car with age. They are the low spot in the system and brake fluid is very good at absorbing humidity from the air, mainly through the cap on the master cylinder reservoir. That moisture goes to the lowest point and corrodes the caliper pistons and bores. One way to prevent...

Yeah, that was way more than I would attempt. What are you driving?

    RAIN?

Supposed to start this afternoon. My lawn is still making squishy sounds wherever I step. It's gonna be a while before the earth dries out around here. I pulled a broken fence post out of the ground yesterday afternoon and the 30" hole it left behind instantly filled with water like a well.

If it's green on this map it's state land. http://maps.njpinebarrens.com/#lat=39.741551579623795&lng=-74.57272528157887&z=12&type=terrain&gpx=

Most Remote Area in the Pines

Don't know about fishing but my favorite spot in all of Wharton is the trestle at Hampton Station. Drive to the south end of Riders Switch and walk 500 feet through the woods. Your jeep will be a little muddy but the big scary puddle is less than a foot deep. Beautiful spot and the fact that you...

    Webb's Mill Stones

Ok you have the right idea for sure then. And some of these cars are now equipped with electronic wear indicators that illuminate a warning lamp-- the indicator tab contacts the rotor and completes the circuit much like a brush in an electric motor does.

    History of this Canal

I think we put in closer to the campground (further upstream). But I could be wrong. As I understand it that campground is now closed to the public and just hosts weird hippie festivals in the summertime.

    Webb's Mill Stones

You can use a screwdriver or wire cutter to move the wear indicator tab away from the rotor and silence the noise. When they start making noise you normally have about 2mm of pad lining remaining, though it's common for the inner and outer pads to have differing thicknesses. If you are replacing...

    Webb's Mill Stones

Check to make sure the backing plates on the inboard side of the rotors are not bent and contacting the rotor. I don't see how going through sand could suddenly wear your brake pads, but it could certainly move the backing plate the millimeter or two necessary to make it rub. Or, it could be a...

    History of this Canal

Oh man, I think you had me beat, at least we had a real boat. And some youthful energy on our side. What dirt road would I have used to access the creek deep in the woods east of 206?

    History of this Canal

Around Christmas I got my truck stuck in the sand in the area of that canal and walked around a little bit collecting sticks to shove under the tires. I normally gun it through the intersection below the plastic bridge (Raritan and Sandy Causeway) and then keep up the speed further south, but I...

Most Remote Area in the Pines

I have been paranoid ever since contracting Giardiasis in Mexico a few years back. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! This one did for about six weeks after I got home. Like, every ten minutes for those six weeks. Also, the antiparasitic drug Flagyl is the only cure but while taking it...

    Key's Sandwash--Menantico Ponds?

I'll play around and see if I can get the hang of the njpb maps. And yes, decimal looks much easier. Thanks for the advice.

    GPS recommendations

I use a phone app called "US Topo Maps Pro" that allows you to preload map areas for later offline use, a feature I find really useful. I know theres a way to drop map pins and enter waypoints but I haven't yet tried it. My favorite thing is all the options for map imagery- there's the standard...

    Goshens Pond

That's funny, I was looking back through the old threads here and came upon this one- I camped next door to the original poster on the weekend she posted about-- we talked a little with her and her husband, and her kids ran around with mine for a while. I'm sure she's long gone from this website...

Most Remote Area in the Pines

Verizon definitely has better coverage in the pine barrens. T-mobile doesn't even work consistently at Goshens Pond, let alone in the center of Wharton. When I camp at Goshen's I sometimes have to drive down to where the Atsion cabins are to make a phone call. There's service for maybe a mile or...

    Key's Sandwash--Menantico Ponds?

Thanks! I will check it out when the weather warms up. I must be too young to have heard of Camp Hollybrook, doesn't sound familiar at all.

    Key's Sandwash--Menantico Ponds?

Appreciate the offer, I have weird days off too. Maybe someday we can do that. You're saying if you enter at the lat/long I gave you, follow that paved road west, then turn slightly left when you reach the house, this is public property, and legal to be on? I assume that's what you meant by...
