    Fire danger!!!

Fire in Fort Dix was contained at 400 acres. Added on to the 1000+ acres that burned a few days ago. The cause is still unknown but it is believed to be caused by human activity. The Warren Grove fire a couple of weeks back was caused by a lightning strike. NJFFS has bumped up their...

    Fire danger!!!

Campfire restrictions were bumped up a notch and according the the NJFFS group that I am a moderator on patrols were bumped up to a stage 3 which means that every truck doing a patrol must have a driver and a firefighter on board. It is really dry out there, so please take extra precaution...

    Sound identification

Guy, No, I googled them to see what they looked like. I took a couple of photos of the tree frog with my phone, but it was too dark (almost midnight) and the flashlight shining on them made them less than optimum. I will be out there again with my camera.

    Sound identification

Thanks Al!!!! They sure made a lot of noise for such little creatures! Correct pics? Northern Grey Tree Frog Fowlers Toad This was my first time searching for and trying to identify the sounds of the pines. I am so glad I recorded it. Am thinking it would make a cool ringtone, hehe....

    Sound identification

I was out in Wharton last night in the Hampton Rd area and heard some great sounds coming from the a small area near the intersection of Stokes and Hampton Rds. I recognized a tree frog and a bull frog, but there was a third sound (dubbed the "screechy thing", hehe) that I could not identify...

    Amatol reports and mapping

Yes, that seems right. Sometime today I will post a map with the interesting things that I have found plotted out. I plan on trying to compare it with some of the old maps of the area if I get a chance. I'll keep you updated...

    Amatol reports and mapping

Boyd, I have 70-80% of the area mapped out on my GPSr. Just haven't overlayed it with the old maps, topos and aerials yet. It is a learning process for me. I believe that the area you are showing is where the old pouring and cooling buildings are. I don't think those buildings are the ones...

    Amatol reports and mapping

The thing that really confused me was this "trench". I had it marked from my last visit. A couple of feet deep and maybe 2 ft wide (if that), I had noticed a "pit". The indentation in the ground measured about a 3-4 ft diameter. Just a depression in the earth, but if you look closely there...

    Amatol reports and mapping

My second stop took me to what I believe to be the "pouring and cooling" buildings. These buildings are pretty intact ruins. There is an angle of about 15-25 degrees of the outer walls pointing inward which made me believe that they are the P&C buildings. There were three of them in a row...
