Chiggers are out in full force already...

Good analogy, Scott! ;) I "acquired" my first batch near the Painted Rock two weeks ago. The earliest I ever remember getting them. John-

    Dragonflies In Droves

While visiting my brother last weekend, in Tuckerton, I noticed an unusual amount of dragonflies. In conversation (no source), he explained to me that the dragonflies were released to help control the large population of mosquitoes this year. How much truth there is to this... I don't know, but...

    NJPineBarrens.com 10th Anniversary

I've only been on the board for a little over 4 years, but have seen it grow significantly in that time. Reading some of the archived posts gives you a sense of where this site began. An amazing evolution. Many thanks to Ben and Guy for the hours (and $) needed to keep the the forums up and...

Green Bank Inn... closed for good.

One of the last, true Piney bars! Many a long ride home from that place in the wee hours of the evening, but always a welcome destination for a mid-summer day thirst quencher. Sorry to see it go. John-

    Fire at Goshen Pond

I was coming out of Quaker Bridge Rd this evening around dusk and saw half a dozen NJFFS vehicles along with a KYW 3 news van at the Atsion office. Pulled in and found out there was a small fire around Goshen pond campsite. Could see plenty of smoke from the ranger station...

    Jim Murphy, passed away

A sad loss for us all. I had just talked to him recently at the "Lines" event at Frog Rock, telling him how much much I admired his music, and how I looked forward to seeing him perform again. From one to another... Rest in Peace, Pine Baron.

    OMG!!!

Ditto! My neighborhood had it's annual 60+ home yard sale last Saturday. I neither buy nor sell, so I had to "get the hell out of Dodge"! Ended up in Amatol, waymarking some of the ruins. While breaking for lunch, I had an unexpected, but welcome visitor. Can you spot her? So much better...

    Black's Stone Updated

Gipsie- I believe the W.P. is William Pancoast, who had holdings in Bass River Township at that time, and his surveys were bought by a John Mathis (J.M.) of Burlington county. Mathis, apparently, was a great land owner during that time period. John-

    coffin and hay glassworks

George- You present a very good query. My guess would be (B). Brand names often become the standard moniker for an item. A tissue is predominately a "Kleenex", an adhesive bandage, a "Band-Aid", etc. We have terms in my industry (printing) that follow the same pattern. You possibly hit it...

THE BARRENS: NEW ALBUM RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT

I agree, Jeff. Back in '83, my buddy caught one that he was so proud of that was 24". For kicks I said, "let's weigh him" ...5lbs 2oz. While dredging Killdeer Lake in Medford that same year, we, unfortunately, found one floating by the boom one morning that was 25", without the tail. A real...
