    Who Owns What

I suppose if you bit the bullet and signed up right from the start it might not be as irritating. My buddy Randy loves it and has coverage for Delaware and NJ. I'm not sure if you have to get the whole US if you choose more than one State. I hunt a lot of State woods in NJ so I don't really...

    Who Owns What

Many of my friends have OnX and both of my sons use it. It is a powerful tool and has a lot of very cool mapping features. I signed on for a free trial but they bugged the piss out of me so much during the first two days with emails asking me to jump over to a full subscription that I deleted...

    Theater?

The private, contracted companies that took over several years ago and perform the work now, appeared to be a little more considerate. Although, I haven't been to an inspection station in years since both of my trucks are exempt from inspection and they stopped motorcycle inspections around 2009.

    Theater?

Oddly, the property was also home to a NJMV Inspection Station. It can be seen in the attached 1980's aerial with a row of waiting cars snaking along the driveway. It was the one I always went to as it was the closest to my hometown of Gibbsboro. It employed some of the most miserable pr*cks on...

    Why I otter...

Beautiful photos Jon. I was in the woods at 5:40 this morning walking the mile from my house to my stand under moonlight. Nothing like it. We usually have an otter or two back here but I haven't taken the time lately to look for sign.

New trail map is aimed at reducing illegal traffic in Pinelands forest

Sadly, this is just another branch of the permit fiasco into which we are all about to submerge ourselves. I suppose we should just lay down and heed the sage words of Indiana Jones and Montgomery Burns, both of whom appeared in the video. :)

Property Stones And More... Fall 2022/ Winter Spring 2023

Stiltzkin, The coordinate values shown on the monument are X and Y Cartesian coordinates. More importantly, the X value is reduced by a factor of 100 and the Y value is reduced by a factor of 1,000 so that they fit on the monument. You also need to know that X values are Eastings and Y values...

    Duck and Cover Baby !

It Iooks like I have been slacking a bit here. :) I started this thread 9 years ago. So, without further ado, I hereby proclaim the start of Six-Day on December 5, 2022! Good luck to everyone and enjoy one of New Jersey's oldest hunting traditions...

    What is this thing?

It looks like a cast iron shitometer cover with a nearby witness post so that it can be found more easily when the leaf cover is heavy, as is the case in this photo. When the lid rises above grade, it serves as an indicator that the s%itter is full. Simple and effective technology. :)

    Constable Bridge

I used to spend a lot of time in that area. In most years, it is impassable by the average 4WD truck from late October until May when the groundwater table rises. I used to use my son's beater truck to hunt back there and was able to squeeze it through the go-arounds. The only saving grace was...

$222,000 for that POS ? What a great deal. :(

This Saturday, November 19, is New Jersey's Youth Firearm Deer Hunt Day

The Youth Days are one of the best things that NJ F&W has done in my 54 years of hunting. It is harder now than ever to get kids involved in the outdoors and giving them a day to themselves improves their chances of being successful and hopefully remaining life-long hunters. Here is my youngest...

What happened to Mannis Duck Pond?

I remember the gravestone Guy. My wife and I visited that cemetery in the late 1970's on motorcycles before we were married. I remember thinking the name Manassas was really cool. If I recall correctly, it was not a very old stone like one would expect. It seemed like it had been replaced. Hard...

    YMCA of the Pines Fire

1967? Holy Schmoly ! Were dinosaurs roaming the camp at which you worked at that time ? :p

    YMCA of the Pines Fire

My father stayed there in Ockanickon in the 1920's. He was born and raised in North Camden and it was quite a culture shock for him. My sister has a letter he sent home to his mother (my grandmother) asking her to come get him ! When was the name of the camp changed ? Please don't tell me that...

Deep Washouts on Lower Forge - Recovery

It is Bob. You can park vehicles on the east side of the river wherever you can find a spot and walk right to the site. I hiked in from Batsto back in '79 for an overnight stay when I was in college with two college buddies. They were both from congested areas of North Jersey and you would...

Fall on the Atsion Burn --- A PBX Trip

After two days of applying rust remover jelly, vigorous wire brushing and wire wheeling, I got to see some good metal. I also got all three brass scale pins moving freely. Not quite what I was hoping for because I could not find a manufacturer's name on the base of the blade. My wife thought I...

    Fall Scenes

I've been through that site many times over the years John and I still haven' been able to figure out the hole with all of the vertical timbers. One of the Rusnaks told me a local tale of the people who used to live there that is very chilling, if it is true. Good campfire story:eek:. The family...
