The same day Bob went through that hole, I did also with my Bronco. It was iffy that day because of the ice which always makes water crossings tougher. I went through no problem but that 10" drop was unexpected. I've been through that hole many times and it is usually not a problem and it has...

February Stone Searching in Cumberland County

Bill, I can understand your concern but they are fairly uncommon. Scott could tell you how dangerous they are to your dog and when you are most likely to come across one. You might want to PM him (redneck350). Bob takes his dog Buddy out all over the place and has not had a problem (as far...

Thanks for all your kind responses. I am glad the report was interesting. Glowardz, welcome to the forum. Have you been in NJ long? I am sure you will find alot of great information here. BTW, while PBXBob is a legendary creature that inhabits the most isolated and desolate bogs, and...

    Return To Cumberland County

Sure, it was all fun and games for you but I'll have you know it took weeks for Bob to wash that paint out of his hair and it never came out of his suede fringed jacket!!

    The lure of Cumberland County

Nice. Great photos of that woodcock. I didn't know there were any sandhill cranes still in NJ. Is this a migratory thing? Jeff

Finding a watering hole at twilight

While searching the woods near my house on MSN birdseye I found an almost unnoticable body of water in a cedar swamp. The cedars cast a shadow over the imagery and I found it mostly by accident. It was unusual because it did not appear to be a spung, yet there were no obvious streams leading...

    High Plains Drifting

Yeah, it does feel close to the sea or ocean doesn't it. I swear when I am in the plains I always seem to expect to see the ocean just over the next rise. After all these years I still get that sensation. Being close to the ocean always gives me a sense of security...a sense of escape. I get...

    fishing in the pine barrens

A google search showed that Maryland and Delaware claim to have a population, but some of my reference material states otherwise.

    fishing in the pine barrens

While studies of populations of blackbanded sunfish have been conducted, it has not been determined if wild harvesting for the pet market has been a factor. The blackbanded sunfish is rare and only occurs in the pinebarrens, and North Carolina. Although a small population exists in Va (where...

A new fight over how to save the Pinelands

So it is already on the Govenor's desk. What are the chances he will veto the proposal? Does the federal government have any say in this matter. I have always been confused about the extent and power the federal government has in their national reserve. Jeff

    fishing in the pine barrens

Yes, the blackbanded sunfish is illegal to catch but has been caught and exploited illegally in the domestic (pet) fish market. It is too small to be a game fish anyway, but is very important in the aquatic ecosystem.
