Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

Wow, I had no idea Boyd. If your purchase is over $110, there is a NY City sales tax of 4.5%, a metropolitan transportation district surcharge of 0.375% and a NY state sales tax of 4% for a total of 8.875%. If you were only subject to the State 4% it would be great. The internet sales for NJ...

Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

Well, I am very impressed with B&H. I ordered the tripod at 10:56 p.m. on Thursday and it was on my step today at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. Less than 48 hours. That was with their free shipping too. I really like the tripod. Very stable and well made. Going to try it out tomorrow.

Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

Just pulled the trigger on the Manfrotto MK290XTA3-3WUS 290 Xtra through B&H. Thanks for the guidance. If I don't like it I'll blame you guys ! :)

Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

For spotting scope use is a ball head or pan/tilt preferred 46er or is it just personal preference ? I am thinking pan/tilt would be good for range use. The Manfrotto 3WUS looks good but I see "technopolymer" listed for the head material. Sounds like plastic. The reviews on B&H and amazon...

Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

Thanks for the input Boyd and 46er. The scope weight is 43 oz. I have inspected and tightened all of the pieces of my tripod head and added a hose clamp around the extension tube where the head is inserted trying to get the slop out. However, all of the head pieces are plastic and it just ain't...

Decent Tripod for Spotting Scope ?

I have this Nikon tripod that I bought a few years ago primarily for taking delayed shutter release photos when we are taking hunting pictures. It looks good but it is pretty sloppy in the head. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/821020/nikon-tripod-compact-realtree-hardwoods-green-camo I have...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Yes there are fossils in the sands and clays that are exposed during mining. I grew up in Gibbsboro and there were several active mining operations in Gibbsboro and Voorhees. Tri-Boro actually located in 4 municipalities is still rolling full bore. The pit I spent a lot of time in when I was a...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

I am attaching a Bing image of the operation I worked on. The owner never did finish the excavation because the low grade material (lots of clay and silt) was hard to market. He passed away and the land ended up with a developer who tried to market a few building lots around the lake but they...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Haven't run into that exact situation Bob although the operation in Hamilton got a lot of neighbor farmers up in arms asserting that their wells were running dry because of dewatering that was taking place on our site. Our site was an old borrow pit remnant from the original AC Expressway...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Outside the Pinelands jurisdiction all projects are subject to NJAC 7:7A Bob. There are 3 wetland resource value classifications under those rules and three transition area widths based on the classification. The first is Ordinary Value which essentially covers ditches and some drainage...

    Shoreline required for resource extraction

Bob, I filed a resource extraction permit application and several renewals for an operation in Hamilton Township Atlantic County. We were only held to the 5:1 slopes and I don't ever recall having to address the shoreline standard. In my opinion, the 3' of graded shoreline above and below the...

I love that place Bob. That was my Bog Slog hike. Seems like a few years ago but it was back in 2008. We are getting old and time doesn't seem to care.

Sorry I just noticed the 1130 on your image is that 1130 linear feet? If so that's 376 yards according to my gozintas.

I am not on my desktop Bob can you scale that on for me on Google Earth ? That starts on the south westerly side loops around the southern tip and goes up the north easterly side I am guessing it would be a minimum of 400 yards.

850 meters doesn't sound all that big. He could have seen one at least half of that size on the Sleeper and saved himself a lot of trouble. :)

    What Am This ?

Well, I finally got back to the spot with my buddy today to take a first-hand look at this thing. First, I don't think it's a valve. The reverse side of this very heavy object has tracks cast into it that would allow it to be mounted on and slide along two rails. The round, tubular portions...

    Dorchester Trestle at sunrise

Bald eagles are as prevalent as deer flies in that area Jon. I have some pics of a nesting eagle from a few years ago I will try to find. I used to rabbit hunt Dix WMA many years ago and now I groundhog hunt a farm on the north side of the Cohansey a few times a year. A wild, beautiful and...
