    Nescochague berry feeder canal

That is a great article Guy. I remember it well. The field inspection of the dam many years ago with members of this site was an eye opener for me. If I came across that dam or the ditch while walking through that woods, I would have never known the historic importance of it without the...

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

With the strong Northwest blow today there are probably waves hitting the upstream face. I can't get back there tonight to look.

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

A sudden change has occurred just in the last week. I am back here two to three times per week running our dogs and the changes shown below occurred since Tuesday. Another beaver dam has been started only40' downstream of the outfall and it is surcharging the pipes beneath the road. This is now...

Unusual Memorial to a Young Man in the Pines

Great detective work Subtlelikeatrex. The power of the Internet is still amazing to me. For younger generations, it is something that was always there and in my opinion, not fully appreciated. Researching this young man's death in 1980, the year he was born, would have taken hours, if not...

    Bay to Bowl

I was crabbing way up in Oranoken Creek with my wife and kids circa 1992 and a guy came passed us in a small boat loaded over the gunwales with lumber and carpeting. He stopped to talk for a minute and said he was on his way to work on his shack. That was when I first realized that there were...

    Bay to Bowl

I stopped in this duck shack once. (See Historic Aerials image below) They used to leave the doors open to discourage vandals and it actually worked. I was told that he duck shack was built in the 1950's and blossomed out of a simple clam lease by on of the owners' grandfathers. The duck shack...

Valued Friendship, a PBX Winter Hike

But Steve Miller was pronouncing it wrong. :) The true South Jersey pronunciation of the Maurice River is "Morris". And the little town along the river is pronounced Morristown, not Moreeesstown I have argued this with several people over the years. Al, can you back me up on this ?

    Nescochague berry feeder canal

The area where you photographed the boards was privately owned until not too long ago. I believe it was acquired by NJ around the same time that Ace Campground was acquired. The piece with the boards over the canal was huge and was owned by guys that hunted it. They had large shooting shacks in...

    Nescochague berry feeder canal

Great report ! We visited the dam site many years ago with Ben Ruset and exlpored other legs of the canal on a later hike. It was an amazing feat to dig that canal and who knew it would be the basis for early riparian law ?

Valued Friendship, a PBX Winter Hike

Back in late November , Hewey from this site and I were exchanging texts while deer hunting one night and we talked about getting together in the woods for a few holiday beverages and some general jocularity. We both agreed to wait until the hunting slowed down a little and we would then plan a...
