Heck even the leaves of the two look the same to me. Anything that isn't a white oak I"ll just call it an oak.I"m not drilling holes into trees to identify em.

I have gotten them with peremthrin that was a few days old and had been in the woods once already. The pants and socks were not washed but put aside as woods britches.I have never gotten chiggers when the chemical was fresh.I think you have run into a new species called "Super Chiggers"!

Looks like we don't have a monopoly on turds. I could almost understand it in a country where folks have nothing, I said almost! But in a country like Canada you know the bastard wasn't starving. Human trash is about what it is.

Actually your right, the Hartman maps do not say there is a mill on Laurens Branch. The Manumuskin Management Plan states that there was a mill stone removed from the Laurens Branch in the 40's I believe. It's a sizable plan and I"ll have to see if I can find the page and I"ll do a screen shot...

A couple Forgotten Mills in Cumberland County

I need some help from our historians on here. Me and a friend of mine have been exploring in a couple areas of Cumberland County and have acquired a few mysteries that neither of us know the answers to.I wouldn't even know where to find the answers outside of the great historians that hang out...

Who else goes hiking with their dog?

My black Lab yanked my wife off the front step and knocked her out when she landed on her face. Luckily I was not home or the dog would have died that day. That was two years ago.Her neck still bothers her constantly to this day.

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

I know you can set trails where they come in and out but much of the old Trapper literature I have read describe them also setting traps in the entrance tunnels to the lodge.Perhaps thats illegal now?

    Miller's Bog Road Crossing

Couldn't you set the traps underwater in the lodge entrance? A bit inconvenient, you'd probably get wet but it would keep dogs out of it.

    Pine Barren Flora

Fireweed does have one purpose that I know of.The dried stalks make good hand drill spindles for starting fire. I find a cottonwood spindle and a white cedar fireboard bow drill set easier.Hard to find wood dry enough to get a coal with a hand drill set in NJ because of the humidity.

Apple Pie Fire Tower - Fence/Gate being installed?

That old septic tank at Dr. Whites has been filled in byt the state.I know the guy who reported it as a hazard and they filled it in.This upset me because I believe people should watch where they walk but if someone did fall in they would not have got out without help unless maybe they had a...

Thanks Bob.This means I have been mistaking fireweed for wild lettuce for years.Glad I never attempted to eat it.What you show as wild lettuce is not what I thought lettuce was.I have been calling that fireweed lettuce for years.I have just been educated.Thanks:-)
