    Strange Stone

I have dug into a few fire pits myself along tributaries that run into the Maurice. Most of my old surface hunting sites are now peoples yards but I know a few good spots still in the woods along freshwater feeder streams that will turn up some points and flakes with a little bit of effort...

    Strange Stone

Many of the gravel pits down here have large rounded cobbles of quartz in them in the orange dirt and from experience digging forts in the woods when a kid beneath the humus layer is usually a foot or so of grey dirt then several feet of orange dirt and then you will usually hit a gravelly layer...

    Strange Stone

I"ve seen cave passages where the ceilings are scalloped like that from fast moving water.I"ve also found large chunks of flint lying along the Maurice river at tide level but assumed the Indians brought them from out of state and buried them to keep them moist for knapping.

well that could be if the sand is not native sugar sand but that is most definitely not native stone. What say you Johnny B? Did the sand look odd or just a regular sugar sand road?

I"d say it's an old survey stone, especially since it is obviously non native as you say.I have checked the topo for an obvious line.haven't checked all the aerials yet.Guy may be able to figure out what it goes too but it's always useful to store these coords away, never know when it might be the...

I think surveyors should go back to using inscribed stones. All anybody wants to do anymore is shove a piece of rebar in the ground and call it a day:-(

    Marty's Hoverboard lives...

Probably safer then the ones with wheels.I have a history of about five seconds on a skateboard when i was about fourteen.I put one foot on then picked the other foot up and about the time it came down on the board the board shot out from under me and I cracked the back of my head on the hard...

While doing Geneaology I found that I was descended from Fenwicks from Southern Virginia from my Moms side via KY and WV back to southern Va.I started tracing them back and they went to Delaware and I though Wow! Questionable behavoir by a birder

From a snakes point of view anything that grabs it is trying to eat it,at least when first caught. They will accept handling when they realize they are not about to become a meal, excepting certain species like black racers and northern water snakes which I believe actually enjoy biting anyone and...

    Questionable behavoir by a birder

Coulda been the guy they made the movie SSSS! after.Hollywoods stoked it up quite a bit.It was about a scientist from Florida who was doing experiments on himself by injecting venom into his bloodstream trying to build immunities.Instead he gradually turned into a cobra himself.I think it was...

    Questionable behavoir by a birder

A snake lovin clown? Sounds like a potentially cool guy.Clownin with rattlers is definitely not cool though. When wildlife educators go to schools with live critters to educate kids they usually let them handle critters like harmless variety type snakes and birds and maybe a tame ferret or some...

    Questionable behavoir by a birder

Well showing off with rattlers can be bad for your health.I know a fellow who free handles rattlers.I"ve seen him do it.I was born with two arms and ten digits,I hopefully intend to die that way.

Larry Bird? I thought He was a Hoop Shooter? I know what you mean about our scent being the kiss of death.I"ve come in after being in the swamp and sweating all day and my wife has said" What are you trying to do? Kill me? Get a shower!

    Questionable behavoir by a birder

Now I did have a bad experience handling a wild bird once.me and my little brother were acnoeing up the Maurice river (Tidewater) and pulled over to a bluff I often found arrowheads along the top of and down along the bank at low tide. The top was now someones yard so we stayed down along the...
