    Lakehurst, home of multiple forges?

Very interesting what has been shared. I was forgetting about the second forge that was located further downstream. It still seems stranage that the culvert would go towards Church Street. The pond that was mentioned downstream seems like a point of interest.

    Lakehurst, home of multiple forges?

I found my photos which show a spot in the lawn where the culvert was collapsing. Photo doesn't let me know where it was but I can see I was taking photos between the house and garage. No reason to bother homeowner as there doesnt seem to be anything to learn about former forge from it's...

    Lakehurst, home of multiple forges?

That makes sense that it would have been used to divert water to something off in the distance since it seems to go away from the stream, towards the road. If it was used by a former mill/forge at this location, you'd expect that a culvert would go back towards the stream as they always do. If...

    Lakehurst, home of multiple forges?

I have to go through my old photos to see if I have pictures of what I saw that day. The owner showed me an opening to the underground culvert that was covered by a piece of plywood. I should have a photo of that if anything else. He said that there had been cave-ins over the years that had...

    Lakehurst, home of multiple forges?

A culvert runs underneath a residential yard directly across the street from the lake that may be related to a forme raceway. The property owner told me about it when I was there about 8 years ago. He was very old and I fear he may no longer be with us but I dont know.

    The Cicadas Are Coming Back

I remember a huge emergence in the mid or late 1970's up in North Jersey when I was a kid but I don't recall a major swarm since then. I hear plenty of them every year in August though. I kinda' figured they had come to a more steady-state emergence ratio or something. I want to be excited...

    Cedar Bridge Tavern on TV

BTW, they had a show on Celebrity Ghost stories at Allaire State Park too. That one bothered me more since all it takes is a ghost story for the vandals to show up. Ghosts are the least interestingthing about Allaire!

    Cedar Bridge Tavern on TV

I dont remember the actual language in show but I'm sure they meant 33.9 grams, not ounces!

    Cedar Bridge Tavern on TV

There is a show called "Diggers" on National Geographic channel where these 2 dorky guys go metal detecting at historic sites. Last nite's episode had them at Cedar Bridge Tavern in Barnegat. The theme of show was to prove whether or not the Revolutionary squirmish actually happened there or...

    The Location Of Harris Station

I love it, thats a very cool find. The information shared here says that a freight and a passenger station were located in that area and that the freight station wasn't razed until in 1916. Since the map is from 1913, shouldnt there be 2 structures noted? Or perhaps the freight station wasn't...

Help with a face and a place

Their hammers (cross pein pin hammers) suggest that at least half of them were doing some type of light carpentry/cabinetry. Those hammers would also be good for installing horse shoes although it doesnt look like a stable. One of the guys seems to have a hatchet with a small head on the...

Help with a face and a place

Yes, that building doesnt look like a forge or a mill. The elevator or forklift might suggest this was a warehouse or store as suggested by someone else. You can see pulleys and rope for the lift. I looked closely at the writing on the back of the lift and I think it says: "Boys Position...

    Poking around Mary Ann Forge

Very interesting read. The last time I was at Mary Ann Forge, I was overcome by the entanglement that awaited me and then by the barking dog on the opposite side of Mt. Misery rd. that I thought was coming to get me. There's a residence back there which made me not want to venture further...

Scary Abandoned House between Tuckerton and New Gretna

That's not the one I though t we were talking about. Where is this house? I hate seeing that person's belongings strewn about and about to be looted/destroyed. Looks like no relatives came to claim anything though.

    Green Bank Inn

I've stopped in there several times over the years to use the bathroom and there were usually a bunch of biker guys hanging out. I distinctly remember being stared down by a small group as I walked in and it pissed me off that they were being so stereotypical when I don't get that vibe at most...

I still am shaking my head at what i saw today!

What I saw in Jackson 10 years ago was small, like a bobcat or Lynx. I would imagine the existence of these smaller cats to be likely down here. Was the cat you saw small like a bobcat?

Large turkey flock along Garden State Parkway

You will see Turkeys and Pheasant disoriented in those areas this time of year because they stock them for the hunters. I spent a lot of time in that part of Monmouth County woods and they're are not a lot of wild Turkey left and almost no Pheasant. I feel bad when I see the occasional pheasant...

    Chigger Relief

I'm still not sure if those tiny suckers are true chiggers or not. I can tell you this though...you can see them if you look closely and they can be removed with a tweezer. I've had thousands of them on me and I have been able to remove them when I get home after taking a shower and have never...

I still am shaking my head at what i saw today!

Holy crap, that is an awesome sighting. I saw a small one in Jackson about 10 years ago. They sound like they might attack people too. Get ready, if that happens they will be gone as soon as they came.
