708-acre (cranberry) farm to be protected

That's good to hear, especially in Medford. We need a strong buffer zone to protect the Pinelands from Evesham development creep. Now if we can only get more farmland preservation in Indian Mills instead of turning it all into cookie cutter developments. Justin

    A good NJ-DEP map site

All, I actually used to work for NJ OGIS and was responsible for developing/enhancing some of the map services at the state website. Check out OGIS as well. Some of these map services are much more intensive that Google's and allow some pretty interesting layers to be added (i.e. rock...

New mountain bike trail in Wharton

Yeah, I talked to a woman (probably the same one) the Friday before Earth Day. Apparently they were approached by employees from the new REI in Marlton about this idea. I wasn't too overjoyed when I saw the trail map (aka up Quaker Bridge Rd). I've been trying to find decent mountain bike...

Wharton State Forest Fire - Jackson Rd, Shamong - 250 Acres So Far

Update: I took a ride back towards the area as they didn't have all the roads blocked off. As of 6:30 PM, the fire was still burning, heading away from Jackson Rd. up the Mullica River towards Goshen (Goshen is a guestimate, just for directional purposes). One of my neighbors was out there...

Wharton State Forest Fire - Jackson Rd, Shamong - 250 Acres So Far

All, I'm sure you've heard of this by now, but it saddens me. This area has some of our favorite 'spots' in the Pine Barrens. Wharton Forest Fire - 250 Acres Burned so Far Hopefully, it will be under control soon and I can observe the damage tonight. Justin

Widening of Atsion Rd. in Shamong/Indian Mills

I couldn't believe the damage that was done due to that accident. It looks like someone dropped a small bomb from a plane. The trees in a 10 - 15 ft. radisu are all charred and burnt and there are trees knocked down for the first 5 - 10 ft of that path of destruction. Justin

Goshen Pond Sunset Pictures - 04/06/2005

All, I was out exploring from 6:30 pm until about 11:30 pm last night. What an amazing evening. It was still in the low 60's around 11:30. We usually don't see days like this until summer! We ended up at Mount around 11 pm and the stars were awesome. I was suprised as after sunset, we didn't...

    Happy Spring everyone!

Took the top off my 4Runner last night in preparation for tonight. I'm dodging work early tonight so we can do some 70 degree sunset exploring in Chatsworth. Ahh, I can smell the blueberries already . . . Justin

    Can you help?: Photo location

I agree with Ben. That road takes a turn from modern to 'how did asphalt get here' after that deadly curve after the juvenile detention center. You all know what I mean. The pine needles come right up to the road and at night, it looks like a road to nowhere. I'll have to check out lovers...

    Wilderness Camp?

Ahh, real camping. I'm game for that. Let me know possible dates/locations either via post or PM. Justin

    Your ideal Pinelands off-road rig?

Well, I had to put my vote in because I'm feeling outnumbered by the all American-made off road rig suggestions. For a Pine Barrens off road rig, my vote is for either the 1st generation 4Runner or any of the smaller Toyota trucks from 1984 until present (Tacoma). When we're talking Pine...

    Music in the Pines

I went with my friend to see the Sugar Sand Ramblers at Albert Hall last Saturday night. The music was really good but the scene was a little odd. I pictured more people dancing around with the bluegrass that was played. Nonetheless, there's some top quality bluegrass played there. Peace...

    Wilderness campsites/cabins at Wharton...

I've camped/hiked the Mullica River Trail (which is the Yellow marked trail starting at the Atsion Ranger Station) twice in the past year. The halfway point is the wilderness campsite called the 'Mullica River Campsite.' The funny part is, even though they say no cars, anyone with a park map and...

    Introduction

Matthew, Welcome to the board. I feel your pain with being away from the Pinelands while in college. I went to TCNJ and lived in Trenton for 4 years and now I'm finally back down in South Jersey. If you're looking for another 4x4, can't go wrong with another Toyota truck. Find one with...

Bizarre, Rare Berry!!-Safe to Walk in Woods??

Pinelandpaddler, Are you brewing your own? My friend and I tried to start last fall but it got way too cold to do the entire process. May I ask what type you are brewing? Justin

Promotion launched to make Pinelands a new tourist destination

Boyd, After it's brief stint as a strip club, Fett's was renamed to Brenton's Bar & Grille. Let me tell you, it's become a classy joint since that name change . . . Just keep the yuppies away from Pic's, though I think the atmosphere will scare them away without any help...

    Most excellent 4WD trip

I was there last week. Wasn't about to take the 4Runner through it without another driver. It looked bigger than some lakes in South Jersey . . . about how deep do you believe it was?
