    Fire in the Pines

And don't forget the Tramps and Smokers! Of interest also, is the reference to Chestnut, that later was reported infected with blight in 1904.

I'd be glad to hear the answer. I've wondered for years.

    Crazy crash on water

46'er I agree, but it IS somewhat better than the past training that consisted of a sixpack of beer and a Capt's hat. There are a lot of bars and restaurants with tie up facilities that I see as a big problem. I still see a lot of inebriated folks on the water. The main operating problem is...

America’s Toughest, Ugliest Warplane Is Going Back Into Battle

From what I'm reading. Turbo props use less fuel and are more efficient in short flights. They cost less to produce than jet engines. And the big advantage; smaller airstrips required for takeoff and landing.

    Saw my first coyote today

I have twice also. First one, I had that uncomfortable I'm being watched feeling. Turned around and one large scraggly one was about 150 feet behind me. We had a look at each other and it just bolted and melted into the brush. That ended my day... Another near the Bartlett's Branch, simply sat...

There were roughed grouse here (Bass River) in the 70's..I can't remember the last time I saw or heard one. Lot's of theories as to why they disappeared: http://www.smithjam.com/where-have-south-jerseys-ruffed-grouse-gone/

    Where is this?

I would too. I'd wager, that there is a connection to Jesse Evans, the Ironmaster at Martha. There is a remark in the Martha Journals about his being involved in road building.Mentioned here on page 9: http://www.bassriverhistory.org/uploads/6/8/7/1/6871754/martha_furnance_diary_intro.pdf...

    Where is this?

The Old Evans Bridge? (Although the stream appears too narrow in the photo as opposed to my memory.)

    Clam Factory

The major constraints for a clam hatchery in NJ are seawater of the proper salinity, free from pollutants. This limits siting to bayfront locations. Then the issues of local zoning become problematic. Not much Agricultural or Marine Commercial zoning exists within those parameters. The cost of...

    Clam Factory

The Husky clam hatchery ceased operations around 2000. It was built on Hughes barges back in the late 70's. At that time the builder/ owner also attempted raising clams on leased bottom adjacent to the barge. He was an early experimenter/pioneer and had many different locations that he used...

Harrisville Lake tree removal and grading

I'm curious as to what is going to prevent erosion from heavy rains, now that it's all loose soil, being only packed down by vehicles. I wonder if the plans include rip rap? I know I'm not a big fan of change, but it is just plain ugly.

    Mullica Bridge On Jackson Road

I miss Iowa. I lived there also from 1980 'till 1983, when I returned to here. I lived outside of Davenport and really enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, and the friendliness of the people. In Decorah, the area of the bridge accident, is a heirloom seed repository and exchange, a non profit...
