    First snow

It is their attempt to make weather entertainment. I wonder if they plan on retiring infamous Nor'easters(another new term I despise!)?

    Where is this?

I'm not certain of ownership. I'm fairly sure it is the township. Tax maps list it as exempted, but not State of NJ or DEP. I will ask some very knowledgeable local folks this week and get you an answer. Edit: Found this right after...

All Unpaved Roads in Stokes State Forest PERMANENTLY CLOSED

No roads closed at Bass River YET that I'm aware of..no improved conditions on Allen Road either. We fear this closure spree will spread to Bass River..BTW when they close off roads, where are the hiking only folks, supposed to park?

    Jessica's boots

I work in a wetsuit nearly daily. The aquaseal products sold at Dicks are your best bet. Dive shops have big markups, for the same products (sadly.. they have too). You can order aquaseal online as well. It dries clear. I apply it with cheap acid brushes. Put the unused portion in your...

    North, South or Central?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Jersey Hmmmmm, New Gretna/Bass River doesn't seem to be on that map...All in good fun, it is a cultural boundary. Kinda like those folks in England debating if they are European.

Another Boat Dumped in the Woods

Penn Yans were also used by the NJ Marine Police years back (1970's). The "Tunnel drive" versions were able to get into shallow water, but were very inefficient on gas. They were very heavily built as well. I had the pleasure of piloting a friends several times. They handled sloppily in a...

    Timber and Taxes

"Tax the rich to feed the poor" is certainly not a new idea, nor is it constrained to just one side of the aisle in American politics. Unfortunately "The Taxpayers" continue to elect and install persons who will do just that. As a jaundiced voter, I can only think we must want the status quo...

    Paper Wasps

I live in the Leektown area, and for the past two years have seen a scarcity of paper wasps (polistes). We see a few queens in the spring and then no more. I have three open eaved sheds, and porches, that have to be scoured for nest removal (usually two or three per shed), but the past two...

Harrisville Lake to Wading River Canal

Thanks for the reply and great photo ecampbell. When I first stumbled upon the diverter back in the late 70's, I supposed it was some low bridge of some kind. It wasn't until the 90's that I "discovered" the canal. I am certain that EPA nor DEP would approve such a project today...

Harrisville Lake to Wading River Canal

I often hike a short stretch of the Batona between Rt 563 and 679, along the remnants of a canal. Does anyone know what was the purpose for this dug canal, that led from the West Branch of the Wading River, over to Harrisville Lake? The “ wooden diverter” remains are still in the river. At the...
