The Woods Of Atsion Meadow; a PBX Hike.

Looks like a great outing, very sorry I couldn't make it this time. We did collect 1,000 food items for the food pantry, so the day was not wasted, even if it would have been more beautiful to walk in the woods that trek up and down suburban streets picking up bags of canned goods :)

    They just won't stop

GAH! I've said it before, I'll say it again - THERE ARE SO MANY THREATS TO THE PINE BARRENS THAT IT MAKES ME INSANE THAT WE ARE NEEDLESSLY TEARING OURSELVES TO PIECES OVER THIS ISSUE. We need to work TOGETHER to figure this thing out, and the original MAP process was wrong. The state has...

    South Jersey Trailheads Map

All the South Jersey hikes I've documented so far (100+), in one convenient Google Map. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?hl=en_US&app=mp&mid=zHMMSPVsm8jY.k9IovO_5Sq0U I'm sad, because I figured out how to add GPS tracks, but Google limits you to only 10 layers, and each GPS track has to be...

    State park & forest closures

I'm very sad, Scouts were supposed to have our January camping trip out at Bodine Field this weekend. Not sure the vehicles would have made it with this snow though, four wheel drive trucks and my Subaru are good, but probably not this good.

New Orienteering course at Black Run Preserve

Black Run Preserve just officially released their new orienteering course brochure today. It's a bit over 6 miles. I know the fella that did most of the work developing it, so I got an advanced copy and did it about two weeks ago and had a blast. It's listed at 2 1/2 hours, but it took my...

Have you ever felt unsafe in the pines?

6' 1". It's got a better now that beards came back in style. Or maybe its just the three year old that follow me around these days.

    Aerial Harrisville Photos

Missed this the first time, it's really awesome. The wall looks so much more fragile when you're looking straight down on it. One of these days, I'll actually remember my copy of Dellomo's book when I head out there. I only camp at Bodine Field about four times a year :beerspill:

Have you ever felt unsafe in the pines?

What, no "Jersey Devil in the middle of the night" stories? :jd: I've never felt worried about people, but I've had an unleashed dog or two come around a corner thats made me jump. They always turn out friendly, but I would have liked to see them coming! Like some of you, I think I worry...

    Nike Missle Base Lumberton

Buddy sent me a photo-blog post about the Lumberton Nike base. Some real nice pictures, I enjoyed it thoroughly and thought I'd share :) https://photoimpressionism.wordpress.com/2016/01/20/lumberton-new-jerseys-nike-missile-battery-ph2325/

    Oil drilling in Plumstead/Jackson?

Never would have thought they'd be looking for oil in South Jersey, learn something new every day.

Wells Mills County Park - Waretown

Went and hiked the blue and pink trails at Wells Mills a few weeks back. I hadn't been here before, but really enjoyed it. Have to head back to do the White Trail, was just too long for the babies :) My navigator. More pictures and trail info...

Off-roaders agree preservation vital at Wharton

I don't like how it keeps listing "roads and firebreaks." Trying to redefine the roads?

    Bear incident

Oh geez! Glad I wasn't one of those kids standing outside, trying to figure out what to do while the adult was getting chewed on.

Cedar Swamp Trail - Great Cedar Swamp Unit - Cape May NWR

As C1nj said, yes. It's part of the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge.

    New bolds Corner NIKE Site

What a shame. I have a few poor quality pictures of it through the fence from years ago. Not much, but glad I took them now!

    Penn Branch Bike Trail

Marking that trail was one of my Scout's Eagle Projects. :) But I'm not an offroad biker enough to bike the thing!

    Naked man hiking.

It's a Appalachian Trail tradition to hike naked on the first day of summer. Or, at least, all the thru-hikers dare each other to hike naked that day, I don't think too many folks actually do it. When I got a tour of Sandy Hook from someone who worked there, he claimed that the waitresses from...

    Whitesbog events

I really want to do one of these moonlight hikes, I have to clear my schedule one of these days. I've heard nothing but good things!

    Reading South Jersey

Saw on Facebook that the Dr. Still book is back in print (Jerseyman, whatever you did to help that along, nice job!). Of course, I should have just looked here a month ago :). My copy is from 1973 if I remember right, is this really the first time its been in print in 40 years? It seems...

Cedar Swamp Trail - Great Cedar Swamp Unit - Cape May NWR

It is not, but it's a very short walk into the woods (maybe 0.2 of a mile in... maybe). Only four visible graves.
